Just discovered Clarins Pure Melt cleansing gel is sodding well discontinued!

Argggghhh this is the first time I've had an absolute staple be discontinued on me. I am distraught (and buying up the last ones I can find online).
I have oily skin and use an oil cleanser at night but in the morning I quite liked the Pure Melt gel, you can put it all over your eyes and wash off and not get the tight feeling you get with foaming cleansers.

Anyone recommend any (very very) similar alternatives?? Otherwise I'll be using the DHC oil in the morning as well.

No7 did one.....not sure if they still do it, but it was gentle and rinsed away well.

VeniceBeach · 26/09/2019 15:57

I’m really surprised about that! I got one relatively recently in one of their gifts with purchase and I liked it a lot.

At the moment I’m using Your Good Skin Comforting Gel Cleanser from Boots. It’s not as good at getting makeup off as the Clarins but that doesn’t matter for a morning cleanse. I’ll probably be trying the No7 one next.

I posted about this a couple of months ago. Apparently one of the ingredients is in short supply. ASDA used to do a dupe for it in their NSpa range.

CarWreck · 26/09/2019 16:48

Oh, weird. Wonder if that means it'll come back? It's not on the Clarins website though :(

Thanks for the Asda tip. I had remembered the No7 one too.

Gah looks like the Nspa 'melting cleansing gel' is also discontinued!

I asked my sister as she works for them and the reason is they can't get the ingredients sustainably anymore.

frugalkitty · 26/09/2019 17:54

You could try the Elemis cleansing balm which you rub into dry skin and then either rinse off or remove with a hot cloth/flannel. Try eBay for the 20g travel sizes. It works in a similar way but is in solid form rather than liquid. Good at removing make up too.

Maybe have a look at Algenist melting cleanser? I discovered it in Sephora and think it's great! It also smells really nice. These days you can get it on lookfantastic.com:

CarWreck · 26/09/2019 18:37

Thanks, I've tried a few balm type things but don't seem to get on with them for some reason.
At least the no7 one is still available!

CarWreck · 26/09/2019 18:45

Ooh the Algenist one looks good too

Babysharkdoodoodood · 26/09/2019 19:02

Just got 2 from amazon for £20. The algenist is a bit pricey. Balms bring me up in chin spots

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 26/09/2019 19:16

I don’t know if you’re a Beauty Pie member but their Japanfusion cleanser is fairly similar, it does the same gel to oil to milk thing as the Clarins one. Another option could be the Merumaya melting balm cleanser, I know you say you don’t get on with balms but this one isn’t waxy like a traditional balm, it comes in a tube rather than a jar and it has a lovely texture. It’s not exactly the same as the Clarins, but it does melt into the skin in a similar way, and is generally a really lovely cleanser.

thisenglishlife · 26/09/2019 19:40

It's their best cleanser :-(
Boots are giving the travel size free with their Clarins gift with purchase at the moment.
Botanics do a dupe, I think it's this one:
www.boots.com/botanics-hydration-burst-dual-action-cleanser-125ml-10261413
Merumaya is also fairly similar, not heavy as the name would suggest.

Toodlesdeary · 26/09/2019 21:32

Oh nooooo. The no.7 one isn’t as good.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 27/09/2019 06:52

I just thought of another one that’s fairly similar in texture, the Emma Hardie cleansing gel. Again not exactly the same, but it is a really good cleanser. It smells gorgeous too!

nmc99 · 27/09/2019 08:11

Noooooo!!!!!!!! I'm gutted

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/09/2019 09:21

Actually the Merumya one mentioned by PP is good, I might go back to that when my Clarins supply runs out. I think it's actually a bit cheaper too. I really wanted to love the Ordinary squalane cleanser but it brought me out in massive cystic spots.

nmc99 · 27/09/2019 12:34

I didn't love the squalane cleanser either

clucky3 · 27/09/2019 13:26

I don't normally like balms either OP but the Elemis one is lovely

Lamentations · 27/09/2019 13:48

I second the Beauty Pie Japanfusion recommendation.

Laquila · 27/09/2019 17:57

Personally I think the No7 one is better than the Clarins one! I know that doesn’t help you though...

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 28/09/2019 18:45

Superdrug do an oil gel cleanser it's ok. Body shop camomile cleansing balm is nice.

nmc99 · 29/09/2019 09:58

Has anyone tried the clarinet anti pollution cleansing cream?

SunnivaGunne · 29/09/2019 10:02

Oh no! I love it and a little goes a long way but when I cannot afford it I use jojoba oil. (as recommended on these pages). You use it in much the same way but take it off with a hot/warm damp face cloth. Skin feels clean, moisturised and much like after Pure Melt.

travailtotravel · 29/09/2019 10:05

Another fan of elemis here ...
