Non shiney sheer foundation

homemadecommunistrussia · 22/09/2019 14:02

My skin is very dry, foundation always starts off dry and cakey. If I mix in a bit of moisturiser in it looks better, but by 1030 I look barefaced and shiney.
I haven't had much luck with powder or setting spray either.
Any ideas?

I've been really pleased with the Clarins one that's got a pipette in the lid. I never used to wear foundation but it's quite sheer and light, plus it has a good colour range that doesn't make you look either grey in the face or orange. It's nice. Plus I bought a bottle just before last Christmas and I've only used about half of it. You don't need much.

A few years back there was a craze of using some Nivea for men's aftershave balm as a primer - tried it and it worked a treat for me

But then let OH have his product back switched to ladies primer and lo and behold make was sliding of my face again.

So I find using it works for me. Not everyone's thing though..

homemadecommunistrussia · 22/09/2019 20:43

I remember the men's balm thing, but my skin is sensitive and I daren't try it.

Maybelline fit me or MAC face and body

Mixingitall · 22/09/2019 20:45

I have combination skin. I like Mac prep and prime followed by hello flawless cream by Benefit.

homemadecommunistrussia · 22/09/2019 20:57

I think part of my problem is I use a creamy moisturiser to stop my nose and cheeks being flakey, but this then makes my make up disappear a few hours after I put it on. I do leave it 10-15 minutes between the two...

If you're flakey then I would look at an acid exfoliator first before your moisturiser.

I've got really dry skin and for a budget option I love bourjois healthy mix serum foundation, I also have way pricier ones but that is the one I come back to most often.

Isleepinahedgefund · 22/09/2019 21:57

Skin prep is key.

Try Too Faced hangover RX primer, it's very good for dry skin and helps foundation stay longer.

When it comes to finding a sheer foundation, I would say find a foundation you like and just used less of it.

Mac face and body is great for dry skin and v sheer but a bit buildable.

homemadecommunistrussia · 22/09/2019 22:03

Hmm I really don't want to add an extra step if I can help it, I am up at the crack of dawn as it is. Something that I could just use in a few minutes and forget about it the rest off the day.

I will look at mac but I think it may be too pricey for me.

I use the becca one with a pipette, I love it.

homemadecommunistrussia · 22/09/2019 22:11

Fuck me £32! This is way over budget. Shock

Bare minerals complexion rescue is great! Either on it's own or with the Under/over primer-setting powder.

Shakennotshook · 23/09/2019 09:47

Have a look at the ordinary, their serum foundation is good and cheap. You van work out the colour using the shade of another one you use.

Kaz2200 · 23/09/2019 09:51

I second the ordinary Serum Foundation, it's fab I use one drop buffed into my skin and then a light dusting of Laura Geller balance and glow on top.

TheCanterburyWhales · 23/09/2019 11:43

I am very impressed with the new n7 ones. Love both hydraluminous and protect and perfect all in one.
I've used high end, Ckarins, Chanel, YSL etc, but both of these best them hands down.
I have dry skin and aim for "my skin but better".

PalindromicUser · 23/09/2019 12:33

Hydraluminous or Stay Perfect Superlight from No 7.

BogglesGoggles · 23/09/2019 12:39

The beautypie oil free one is quite good (and also very cheap).

FenellaMaxwell · 23/09/2019 12:40

NARS Sheerglow is lovely

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 23/09/2019 12:43

I've used Collection sheer primer in warm apricot all summer. It gives enough tint and a lovely sheer texture. And its bog cheap.I found Ordinary too orange toned.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 23/09/2019 14:50

Another vote for No7 Hydraluminous. It's very good and there's always an offer on.
Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter used mixed into any foundation makes it more sheer and luminous but it's quite dear. However, I got lucky and found that it worked for me early doors. I've tried to replicate the effect with cheaper 'dewy' primers ( and spent about £50 in the process) but none are as good as the CT one.

The nearest ok alternative I've found - although only in the spirit of using up all my rubbish purchases- is using a good dollop of glowy primer under foundation and then Rimmel's InstaMatte powder ( it's white) gently over the top. It dulls down the excessive sparkle but lets enough glowiness through after about half an hour. It's brilliant stuff, I've had to stock up from Amazon because no Boots or Superdrug ever has it in stock.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 23/09/2019 15:50

I'd steer clear of the No7 Hydraluminous foundation if your skin is very dry. I found that despite the name, it's not 'dewy' at all after about half an hour and as the day goes on it just gets worse! I love the Lift & Luminate foundation from No. 7, this gives me enough coverage and dewyness to last pretty much all day (I use Mac mineralise skin finish powder on top) You can get a sample of the No7 foundations at Boots and try before you buy, I'd definitely recommend doing that.

justasking111 · 23/09/2019 16:04

My DIL got me onto L`Oreal infallible 24 hour foundation, lovely finish which I then add a dusting of light bronzer to give me a glow. I do use a moisturiser all over first find the boots protect and perfect is light and absorbed easily.

homemadecommunistrussia · 23/09/2019 16:37

I spent a happy half hour in boots today, but everything seemed very orange, very dry or both. I settled on one from the body shop, I'll no doubt live to regret it.
I am interested in the ordinary one, I will have to have a try next time in a city that's big enough.
Thanks for your ideas.Smile
