End of candles?

I hate throwing out my used candles when they still have wax left but no wick. Anyone have any hacks for getting use out of that end bit?

I suppose you could use it like a wax melt in an oil burner. I haven't actually tried it though.

kmini · 22/09/2019 13:39

Do you think wax melts work in electric diffusers too?

That sounds like a recipe for a house fire. No.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 22/09/2019 17:26

Electric burners yes, electric diffusers no

Vintagegoth · 22/09/2019 17:27

Scoop out, chop up and melt. Mix with dried lavender stalks for firelighter

My DF makes his own candles by melting odd bits of leftover wax in the microwave and purjng it around a new wick.

Fstar · 22/09/2019 21:39

Pour in some boiling water, wax melts, floats to top, take out and use as wax melts

lotusbell · 22/09/2019 22:37

I've done this today! Put jar in a small pan with hot water in and gently simmer until the wax has melted. Fish the wick out and carefully pour the wax into a mould or an empty wax melted. I use silicone cake cases. Then I fill the empty candle vessel with the hot wat and let it cool. Any remaining wax will harden and you can skim it off. Then wash the jar in hot soapy water and reuse or recycle.

Empty wax melted, that should be..or oil burner.

lotusbell · 22/09/2019 22:38

MeltER ffs! Grin

Stick the candle in the freezer gor a while OP, always works a treat for me- I saw it online somewhere years ago, the wax just pops out of the jar.

I used to cut it into chunks and melt in a wax melt/oil burner vessel.

You can find tips about candles on YOUTUBE

Bluesheep8 · 23/09/2019 05:39

I've dug the last bits of wax out with a teaspoon and used it as a melt. Works fine.

MissBattleaxe · 23/09/2019 06:57

@dontgobaconmyheart is right. I make candles at home and I always use the freezer trick. Pop the used candle in for a few hours and the wax comes out easily. I would advise against previous suggestions of using a microwave. Also I once a glass candle in a boiling water in a saucepan and it broke into hot shards of glass so don't be as daft as me.

@vintagegoth you’re a genius! I freeze old candles and smash them up with a hammer to use as firelighters - not very elegant. A nice use for lavender stalks too. I use the heads in pot pourri. Thank you Smile

NowhereNearTheHighSt · 23/09/2019 22:09

Use it as a wax melt in a wax warmer

Trumpton · 24/09/2019 06:43

If it is a fragrance I love then I gently melt and use a cheap tea light . Pop it out of the foil and then pour the saved wax into the empty foil case onto the wick.
Voila a new tea light or two of your best candle .
