Philips Lumea - help a potential buyer?

I've done a search and read through previous threads on this - it seems to be a mumsnet favourite! I'm seriously considering a purchase if a Boots offer or points offer comes up but it's a pretty big investment so wondering if any of you can answer the below questions?

I have a medium-slightly olive skin tone (not much tan this summer) with dark brown almost black hair. I'd be wanting to use everywhere - legs, face, bikini, underarms.

  1. Does it hurt? Concerned that might put me off using it
  2. Do you feel smooth? I love the freshly shaved feeling on my legs
  3. After 6 months of use, how much maintenance do you need to do in terms of shaving and top ups?

  1. No, it doesn't hurt. I am the biggest wimp and there is literally no pain, it's just a flash of light and it gets warm/hot but that's it.
  1. Yes, I feel smooth, smoother than shaving when my skin would get dried out and I'd have bumps from the hairs. I have random hairs which haven't gone for whatever reason but they are paler/finer and slower growing.
  1. I'd say approx 95% of my hairs are gone. A 60 second shave every few weeks deals with any stragglers. I'm about 4 1/2 years in, I did it every 2 weeks for the first 5 months and I probably do a top up every 3 or 4 months but it's because I want to keep things as they are, not because I have regrowth. It's preventative.

I have the perfect combination of pale skin and dark hairs so I'm sure that has helped my results but it has really been the best money I have ever spent. I saw results first on underarms and bikini line, I always think because the hairs are thicker/darker there.

No, it doesn't hurt.

I use mine about 2 or 3 times over a month, once a year before I go away. I have barely any leg hair now and no armpit hair.

Thanks!

Also considering the lumea after reading threads on here but worried my hair is too light. I have pale skin and although my leg hair has been darkening over the years, it's kind of a mixture of blonde to brown. Lower leg hair is much darker than thighs. The hair on my head varies from light brown to dark blonde to ginger depending on how much it's been in the sun.

I looked the skin/hair colour charts on the lumea website and it looks like I have the perfect skin tone but wide range of colours of hair on my body means I might not get good (or any!) results.

Another potential buyer here .
Would this be suitable for ( cringing emoji ) chin hair too ??
I'm pale and fair and ideally would use it for sprouting chin hair which is quite course now , and my bikini line ?

LemonRedwood · 22/09/2019 11:58

This is what's on the Philips website Tinkerbell. I don't think it works on very fair hair

I use it on my chin (pcos) it seems to be slowing them down after 2 treatments
Going to do legs and underarms too

I have bought one. I’m about a month in so only used it 2-3 times but I can see some difference. Really easy to use and I don’t think it hurts at all.

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 22/09/2019 20:11

I bought one second hand (I figured as it just hovers over your skin a wipe with a dettol wipe and I'd be good to go) on eBay a few weeks ago for £60 plus postage. It's a slightly older model but still has the big and small window changeable heads and is in excellent condition I've been using it every week and the difference is amazing I'm going on holiday in a fortnight and would usually shave pits and legs everyday, this year I won't even be taking a razor.

SpangledBoots · 22/09/2019 20:15

I'm so close to taking the plunge!

is it recommended to do preventative treatments? i was hoping to buy one thinking i'd be done with it within two years?

scrappydappydoo · 22/09/2019 21:19

I’ve noticed there are cheaper ones - is it a brand thing or is the Phillips one the best?

Mummyonline · 22/09/2019 21:54

There seem to be a few Lumeas. Prestige and something else. What are the differences?

SpangledBoots · 22/09/2019 23:26

It seems as though the Lumea Prestige is the recommended one.

I've noticed an influencer talking about a similar product from Braun but it's over £500 full price.
