How can I make my face look nice??

I don’t know what I need but think I need to re-haul my skincare routine.

I’m late 30’s and have horrible skin. It looks dull, my under eye concealer sits in the wrinkles under my eyes and my skin is very dry under my eyes so foundation goes patchy. I’m susceptible to eczema around my eyes so have to be careful what I use.

I still get spots (sugar def makes them worse so have reduced intake) so I guess I have dull combination skin. I wear makeup every day, I use Mac foundation as this has been the best for coverage and colour and longevity etc.

I use a tea tree face wash and take my make up off with a botanical make up remover as only thing that doesn’t trigger my eCzema and use an avene moisturiser.... I use a Vichy b5 something that was recommended on a different thread at night as that helps clear the spots.

Where should I start?! I don’t know what I need to do?! Any suggestions?

Derma plaining it whatever it’s called??

Cerave is a great place to start. Their face washes are fab.

Try this regime. It's simple but effective.

Morning - Cleanse, vitamin c and SPF

Night - double cleanse and retinol

Add in an acid tone couple of times a week.

I know you said to focus on what you were putting on your skin but ignoring you completely, I take starflower capsules. They have completely transformed by skin giving me a really good glow and skin tone, and massively reducing inflammation from spots and old scars from spots. Other changes to my diet haven't done much apart from reducing caffiene from 10 cups of tea a day Blush

Mac silver light op. Use it under your foundation. Makes your skin look fab. It's the one product that really does make a difference and it comes through your foundation.

I can't help on the skin care itself, but this stuff works.

A hyaluronic acid serum would benefit you, as would caffeine for around your eyes, it is for dark circles, look at the Ordinary website.

I would also mix jojoba oil into your moisturiser, it won't block pores and is the oil closest to skin sebum.

Cetaphil is a very gentle cleanser?

so, cleanse with cetaphil
hyaluronic acid serum on damp skin
a moisturiser with jojoba oil 9spf in day) and caffeine around eyes at night.

Try that regime.

Hi Op - does not sound like you may be cleansing at night with just eye makeup remover and face wash, this wouldn’t remove all my makeup especially MAC can be heavy. Body shop camomile cleanser is brill in balm form, does not irritate my eczema at all! The oil version also good.

They do vitamin e face wash I use in the morning, you could alternative with tea tree and tea tree is very drying.

I have always suffered from very dry skin, for years I have smothered my face in E45 cream, soaks in really well and leaves my skin feeling moisturised. Top up during the day, but then again I do not wear any make up on my face ever.

OP, I have the same eczema-prone and therefore prematurely wrinkly eyes. They were really bad a couple of years ago, but these things have been coincidental worked:

  1. The ordinary "buffet", all over face including eyes twice a day
  2. Aveeno cream all over my face, as above (recommended by a locum GP who prescribed nuclear grade steroid cream when they were really bad. I swear she's the only medic that's listened and cared about my skin ever)
  3. Hyaluron filler eye cream (recommended by a MUA)
  4. LRP Toleriane teint (only around my eyes because it's horrible on the rest of my skin, but it brightens up my eyes without feeling heavy, and doesn't irritate the skin or my contact lenses)

And I use the neutrogena gel face wash in the blue pump top bottle with a flannel. No wipes.

Two years now, two winters and they've been ok. Rest of my face is doing ok for my age (also late 30s), I think.

@Ouchmyheadhurts the centasooth from facetheory is great for red and or irritated skin. I am a picker and if I’ve aggravated a spot and caused an infection and the skin is angry and red the I apply the centasooth.
It’s great, it’s calming and moisturising.

I don’t recommend the Ordinary products, I’ve trialled most of them over two bottles worth and found them to be lacking.

A far more effective range at that price level is the excellent sr skincare which offer products that actually work brilliantly. You can message them and they will give you excellent advice.

@Bluntness100 have you got a link? Can’t find that on Mac website?

I don’t know where to start with these?! I agree I need to add something in the evening... for sure.

@Ouchmyheadhurts she means silverlite. It’s the strobe cream.

I love the peach one at the moment.

Ah thanks. Iv tried strobe and don’t like it. Although mines more silvery looking than peach...

The peach one is very versatile. It can be mixed with foundation, bb cream, cc cream, tinted moisturiser etc, worn on its own or patted on as a high lighter, added to blusher as well.

I love it!
