Is anyone doing the 90s revival? If so - how?

I was a teenager in the 90s - turned 13 in 1992 - and my overall memory of the decade was of high-waisted jeans and baggy t-shirts and jumpers. I did not do the whole Clueless thing with slip dresses and chunky platforms, nor was I on board with mini kilts and ripped tights. I was a socially awkward indie kid, and a velvet blazer was about as edgy as I ever got.

I've heard it said that if you can remember a trend from the first time around, you're too old for the revival, but hopefully S&B says boo to that sort of ageist shit, so I'm interested to know if anyone has been "doing" the 90s?

I'm not sufficiently waif-like to do bias cut satin slip dresses, but I thought I could probably pull off the grunge look, so today, I wore black jeans with a red tartan shirt over a Diesel t-shirt (which is actually from the 90s and was lurking at the bottom of my drawer) and Converse hi-tops. I couldn't decide if I felt fashion-forward or if people might think I was off to a fancy dress party. It was fun to do it, though...

I was 22 in 1990 and broke, I couldn’t afford many clothes but I remember certain things I had and they wouldn’t look out of place today. Over the ten year period things changed but I loved the bit where as a young woman I could just go to the pub in any old jeans and t shirt but there was a glam side too and actually I still think the black tights, velvet hot pants thing looked great for parties. There was a time in the 90’s the 60’s style white boots and mini dresses were popular but also designer- I remember how coveted Gucci was. A decade is never one look but ever evolving but I do remember those horrible pull on flared trousers in black everyone wore to work.

I loved the nineties so much.

I was in my 20s in the 90s, and I mainly wore whatever Rachel from Friends wore.

I remember:

black and white dresses;
skater mini skirts with a polo-neck jumper;

bias cut slip dresses with huge trainers;
long boots;
square-toed boots with that heel that is wide from the back but narrow from the side (I notice these are back in);
Mini skirts worn over trousers!

Loved that decade. Best years of my life.

I’ve updated my Cher Horowitz look, instead of the mini skirt (because I’m now in my 30’s) I’ve opted for a blue checked midi dress, a t-shirt and a tailored blazer.

I’ve also channeled a bit of all saints with new cargo trousers. I love them.

Ooh and cowl neck camis, really flattering!

I loved it too, just remember being comfortable and not being bothered about what I looked like. There were trends but there was also a healthy counter-culture and it was ok to opt out.

I have noticed, though, that a lot of the bands I liked back then consisted of a beautiful female singer who wore mini skirts and tight tops, and a load of hairy-arsed blokes in jeans and trainers who you would have struggled to pick out of a lineup. What was all that about??
