Hoping for help. Diorella has been my go to perfume for years. It's not the same as it was when I began wearing it In the 80s but I still like its freshness. I cant bear vanilla or anything sweet and talc like but would like to try something new so welcome any suggestions please, perfume or even just a lighter spray type thing.

Sorry, I can’t help, I only clicked because I thought this was a baby name thread 🙈🤣 hopefully this bumps it up a bit and someone who can help will see it!

I used to wear this but now i cant remember what it smells like 🤷‍♀️🤔
I think Diorella got a mention on the perfume blogger AMA thread! Have you seen that thread?

Lucked · 15/09/2019 23:12

You might like Chanel cristalle.

MissBattleaxe · 15/09/2019 23:12

Hi @Mydogsnotfat. Diorella is a green chypre so has oakmoss and green notes in it. How about Miss Dior Originale (not the one with the bow on its neck) or YSL Y, or Chanel Cristalle. Also try Papillon Dryad. They do samples on the Papillon perfume website.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 16/09/2019 02:11

Has Dior reformulated (ie dumbed down) Eau Sauvage? If not, that’s worth a shot.

Carven’s Ma Griffe is still pretty, although she’s not what she was. Guerlain’s Herba Fresca is a lovely, green summer scent, although some people get flyspray rather than mint. Grin Guerlain’s Vetiver is also good, spiky and rich.

I love Annick Goutal’s Eau de Camille, which has an astringent ivy top note.

For everyday greenness, I like L’Occitane’s Verbena, it doesn’t have much depth, buts it’s sharp and pretty.

The last time I tried a sample of Diorella, I got a stinging red mark up my arm. Since I’ve worn it in and off for years, that came as a shock. I don’t have sensitive skin and never react to perfume normally.

Nothing smells like Diorella except other slightly "skanky" (this is a good thing!) perfumes of a similar vintage to the original. I stockpile from Ebay.

I can't think of anything I'd recommend to a Diorella fan (Femme possibly) as it's so unique. Then again, that said, it's easy to find things which are completely different!

Eau Sauvage has been reformulated a million times, sadly.

Deathraystare · 16/09/2019 09:08

I wish they'd have left the originals alone! There are enough rubbish sleb sugary scents to play with!!

Deathraystare · 16/09/2019 09:09

Am I right in thinking Chanel perfumes are as they were and only Guerlain and Dior felt the need to ruin their creations???

TheCanterburyWhales · 16/09/2019 10:16

No, sadly not. EU ingredients laws changed the quantities of certain substances and banned others entirely.
Oakmoss is one of the limited quantity ones and is the lynch pin of scents like Chanel 19 and many other classics.
Chanel and Guerlain have the money to be able to find ways of tweaking without completely recreating, and classic Diors are not too different from their originals. But smell a Diorella, Dioressence or Miss Dior from 20-30 years ago, or a Chanel 19 and it's like today's version but richer, deeper, more intense. The same goes for Obsession, Opium, Ysatis Rive Gauche. These were all at the top at the very end of the non-regulated period and are now shadows of their former selves.
For some reason while old Miss Dior and Dioressence haven't moved too far away from their original, Diorella, to me, is now virtually unrecognisable.
And of course, Dior churning out the completely different new Miss Dior branding and its flankers just confuses people. I almost rowed at an airport when trying to buy MD and bring presented with a series of teenagery velvet ribboned shite.

MissBattleaxe · 16/09/2019 10:17

@Deathraystare all perfumes had to change their formula to varying degrees when IFRA regulations came into effect in 2008 and added safety limitations to certain ingredients. Many original formulas could not survive the regulations and had to find substitutes, even Chanel.

IFRA is no bad thing, it regulated any potentially harmful ingredients and made perfume safer, and safe synthetic subs had to be used. It's incredible what they can create these days though so I wouldn't be put off.

It's worth remembering that natural ingredients are not always best and some are downright harmful to skin, but synthetics have to be safe by law before they can be used so, perfume you buy today is highly unlikely to irritate skin.

Ooh cross posted with wise words from @TheCanterburyWhales

Callistone · 16/09/2019 10:18

Wasn't this Chessie's perfume in Polo?

TheCanterburyWhales · 16/09/2019 10:37

@MissBattleaxe- I'm an ex of the Perfumista threads and you and I have often chatted on your blog Flowers
I think I'll dig out some vintage Diorella for my school meeting today!

MissBattleaxe · 16/09/2019 10:51

@TheCanterburyWhales How lovely! Now I'm wondering who you are....

Mydogsnotfat · 16/09/2019 22:17

Thanks for all the suggestions, I have a list of things to smell!
