When did you get your first line or wrinkle?

Did it make it change your skincare routine or make any lifestyle changes (eg. reducing smoking or less time in the sun)?

Delatron it's true, she's not remotely wrinkly (unlike my Nan at that age who had lovely soft skin but was very lined). That said, her skin isn't as taut as it was and she's got hooded eyes and jowls but not wrinkles.

I've just turned 43; when I smile I notice fine lines round my eyes.
This has only been in the last couple of years as I've been a bit depressed plus very tired at night due to meds so not felt like following my usual evening skincare regime which has probably kept lines at bay.

I'm also noticing the start of frown lines but others say I haven't got them so possibly I'm seeing them because I squint a bit when I look in the mirror due to poor eyesight & the fact I'm ultra sensitive to any bright light.

I'm getting a few spots again I think it's cos I'm not cleansing my face at night..

I'm not worried about getting a few lines but I'm trying to prevent jowls by a) Eva Fraser face exercises & b) losing weight off my face.

I've always worn spf outside plus sunglasses with uv protection & not smoked which I think has really made a difference.

Sali Hughes recommended hylauronic acid and vitamin to plump skin, thus reducing the visibility of wrinkles. Wear lots of suncream whenever you are going outside for further prevention and keep skin really moisturised. Drinking water only hydrates skin to a certain extent, you need lots of moisture directly onto your skin to make it hydrated

Sali Hughes has a podcast one of her episodes was with Caroline Hirons, I would highly recommend that episode

Sun damage and smoking are the two biggest causes of lines and wrinkles. I grew up in the far north and most people there aren't very wrinkly in old age due to the lack of strong sunlight. It really makes a tremendous difference. Crepey yes but not deep wrinkles.

This thread is crazy, wrinkles don't suddenly appear, you don't go to bed and then wake up with them! They gradually happen over time!
I do not for one minute believe a 50 yo has no wrinkles!
I'm 40 and have some under my eyes, across my forehead and either side of my mouth. I've had them for years, different severity obviously. My skin is nice but I've obviously got aging as I am aging. I spent my 20s drinking and smoking but I've always taken care of my skin so it's not bad, what over noticed from doing make up on friends (hobby I love) is that my skin is very very soft. I'm proud of that! Grin

I had smile lines around my eyes in my mid 20s (too smiley?) I started using good moisturiser then and they’ve stayed the same (now 37).

I am 32, at 30 I noticed a wrinkle (it's not very deep but it's there) across my forehead and that I get some around my eyes from smiling. I've never been a sun worshipper and have always worn sun cream on my face, but I am naturally very pale and quite underweight so I think that's why. It's weird because I look young and often get asked for ID but to me my skin looks old. When I noticed these lines I did change my skin care routine. Prior to that I'd just washed my face and worn moisturiser and sun cream. Now I have a load of serums and face oils and a retinol serum thing from the ordinary. My skin does look healthier now I think. I still have the same lines I noticed at 30, but I haven't got any new ones, nor do the old ones seem to be getting worse, so I think it is helping.

  1. No wrinkles but my skin is quite blotchy without make up and I have lots of red marks from picking at it (a bad habit). So I definitely am not fresh faced.
dazzlinghaze · 18/09/2019 20:25

I'm 25 and have noticed I have a very faint one next to my right eye brow from frowning. It's barely noticeable just now but it's definitely there.

U2HasTheEdge · 18/09/2019 20:43

I have smile lines at 38.

They used to go when I stopped smiling, but now they stay. I noticed it last week.

UnicornsExist · 18/09/2019 20:49

I got forehead wrinkles in my early teens. I've put it down to many hours wearing my riding hat. Apart from the bags under my eyes (I get up in the middle of the night every day for work) I'm actually surprisingly young looking for someone who got their first wrinkles so young. Now I get my forehead botoxed every 18ish months which means the forehead wrinkles are controlled but I don't look frozen.

BestZebbie · 18/09/2019 20:51

I'd say 35 was the time when I switched seamlessly from needing a fringe to look old enough to be taken seriously to finding a fringe useful to hide lines.

YesQueen · 18/09/2019 21:02

I have smile lines (35) but nothing around my eyes. I think I look my age though!

Ellapaella · 19/09/2019 13:05

31 I started to notice the odd very fine line around my eyes. I haven't changed my skincare routine and it's hardly changed much in 9 years - I'm 40 now and at the moment don't really worry about it.

Ellapaella · 19/09/2019 13:08

Sorry meant to add that now at 40 I have a few fine lines on my forehead and my face looks older, it sure why other than the odd wrinkle but it does. But I'm not bothered at the moment. Would certainly not consider having anything injected into my face at the moment.

Delatron · 19/09/2019 14:42

I don’t think wrinkles are as ageing as jowls/ sagging.

I read somewhere when we are judging someone’s age (and we all do subconsciously) from a distance we are looking for a tight jawline to signify youth.

We also lose bone mass as we age (nice) so eyes become more sunken, temples sink and lose fat, the loss of collagen affects all this too.

So not worth stressing about a few lines and wrinkles and this is why even a 50 year old with no wrinkles may well still look 50 whereas a 30 year old with some will still look 30.

frugalkitty · 19/09/2019 19:14

Delatron I think you've hit the nail on the head in your last post.

tierraJ · 20/09/2019 10:03

I agree re the jowls that's why I'm trying to lose weight & do face exercises to avoid that issue as long as possible..
