How to obtain tretinoin?

LaVieilleHarpie · 13/09/2019 14:36

I really want to start using it. I have no acne, but the anti-aging effects are supposed to be amazing. How do I obtain tretinoin without a prescription, and how much does such a pleasure cost?

OP posts:

The pictures shown are RetinA, doyou mean that ?or actual tretinoin which is much stronger

ZaraW · 19/09/2019 06:12

I thought RetinA was a brand name for Tretinoin?

princessTiasmum · 19/09/2019 13:07

Actual Tretinoin is much stronger,i bought some once form one of our stores in town that often sells oddments from other closed down places etc,it nearly took my skin off, i was bright red and peeling and that was only the once, never used it again
It is still Vit A though
Have a look on Ebay they sell it and normal retinol

mommybunny · 19/09/2019 13:57

Just got my tret in the mail, it’s 0.025%. Sorry if this is a stupid question but is that stronger or weaker than a 1% otc retinol?

Haworthia · 19/09/2019 14:00

It’s stronger. Tretinoin is the strongest form you can get.

Caroline Hirons does some good cheat sheets and videos on retinol, I’ll see if I can find them. She uses a coffee analogy which helped me to understand the different forms of retinoid out there.

withlotsoflove · 19/09/2019 14:04

Tret is Retin A
Retin A is a brand.
You must always start at 0.025. No matter where you source it!
Plus, it needs to be introduced very, very slowly. There is no need for peeling faces and bright red skin!

mommybunny · 19/09/2019 14:20

Thanks for the quick replies! Will have a look at the Caroline Hirons videos.

I’ve been using La Roche Posay Redermic for the last 6 months with no problems bar the initial purge. Does this indicate I should get on ok with the tret?

mommybunny · 19/09/2019 14:25

Ah, have just read the link. Very helpful! I think all clear now, will definitely tread carefully!

withlotsoflove · 19/09/2019 18:00

mommy l think it depends on which one you buy. I use Dermatica which is an exceptionally elegant formula. I’ve had no issues as it’s unscented. I make sure l take it easy/ not too much.
I used that Redermic R with no problems st all. It’s very weak.

ifeelgreat · 19/09/2019 18:26

Where are you? I hVe an aesthetic nurse who prescribed it for me. About £40 I think x

Sagradafamiliar · 20/09/2019 12:26

Does anyone know what the brand name is called in Spanish pharmacies or is it just tretinoin? I want to ask someone to pick me some up.

Delatron · 20/09/2019 14:01

It’s Retirides in Spain.

Sagradafamiliar · 20/09/2019 14:48

Thank you Delatron

Lulualla · 20/09/2019 15:00

If you don’t actually have any immediate conditions which you want to treat, like acne or terrible pigmentation etc, then why not try this instead,
theordinary.com/product/rdn-granactive-retinoid-5pct-in-squalane-30ml?redir=1

Or a similar product from another brand.

Tretinoin (retinA) is retinoic acid, which the skin can use immediately. Whereas the retinoid product needs to be converted by the skin into retinoic acid before it starts to work. The results take longer, but because it’s not as strong and direct, there is much less chance of side effects and dryness etc.

Just remember to use a really good SPF, and if you use a primer and setting spray, get ones with an SPF as well.

Lulualla · 20/09/2019 15:02

Start with a lower percentage and work your way up, your skin will become accustomed. If you react well to it and your skin is looking good with the over the counter retinoid, then you can move up to the prescription and feel confident you won’t react badly to it.

fancytiles · 20/09/2019 18:05

Tret is amazing and gives results but prepare to look like Samantha off sex and the city when she had a chemical peel. It's also quite painful. But best time to use it is winter as less sun, and whatever you do wear spf 50 every day!

Lambzig · 20/09/2019 18:50

I too recommend Dermatica. I have been using trey from them for two months and have had comments from friends that I am glowing lately.

Haworthia · 20/09/2019 21:19

I’ve been using 0.025% at least five nights per week for a while now and haven’t had any peeling at all! I must have skin like an old boot Grin

withlotsoflove · 21/09/2019 12:03

The goal or the expected result is not to peel or go red!
If that happens your routine needs to be looked at.
Tret shouldn’t cause those issues/ if it is - use less and buffer with a good moisturiser! Smile

mrpenny · 21/09/2019 18:14

PM me if you’d like some!

emma6776 · 21/09/2019 20:32

I use the Tretonoin from Detmatica and have never peeled. I don’t agree about the great customer service thought - they muck up my direct debit every month - I overpaid by £49 this month!

cessie322 · 22/09/2019 09:12

Does anyone know if you can get Retin A over the counter in Portugal and if you can what is the name/brand over there? DH going to Lisbon in a few weeks.

Delatron · 22/09/2019 09:43

Yes it’s called Ketrel. First pharmacy I went to said no, I needed a prescription. Next one just handed it over for 3 euros!

So he may need to try a few. Only available in 0.05% nothing weaker.

Luaa · 22/09/2019 09:45

I've just done a consultation with dermatica and got to payment, but it's not actually telling me what they've prescribed, is that right? I don't want to pay without knowing what I'm paying for.
