Straightening hair DD12

Bear with as I’ve had short hair for 30 years and have no clue what to do.

DD is 12 has shoulder length hair thick and wavy. She has it straightened at the hairdresser when she has it cut and loves it.
I’m not keen on her getting her straighteners as I don’t want her to damage her hair so was thinking of getting hot brush or something to try and tame/straighten it a bit at times.

Advice appreciated, will this work? What type etc?

I love the Revlon one step styler brush it's really great at straightening and giving volume. It was on offer at Boots last month for around £35.

Get her a good heat protectant spray and she'll be fine

Still applying heat to the hair with a hot brush. Won’t give the smooth effect on her think hair that I think you maybe wanting with most brands. Heat is fine as long as she’s using a good heat protection product. This can be a spray, cream or a mousse.

I’d recommend spraying with heat protector and sectioning the hair. Taking smaller sections mean you don’t have to go over the same bit as much. Get her a heat proof glove too for her hand if it makes you feel better. The straightener can then be used for smoothing or waves if she fancies a change :)

A hot brush is the same principle as straighteners so causes just as much damage to hair.

Do you mean a hot air styler? These are like a hair dryer and brush in one, so make it easier to blow dry hair straight. Depending on the type of hair she has, an air styler might not get the sleek, smooth results you get with straighteners.

I have naturally curly hair. The best way to straighten mine to minimise damage is use heat protection spray, blow try straight and then only use the straighteners once it's dry to smooth it down.

Most straighteners nowadays are pretty good and you can get a decent Remington or Babyliss set for about £50.

DD spent many hours straightening her hair but it is still in good condition. Thankfully now she is in Year 11, she has finally embraced the curl! —and she doesn’t have the time to straighten it!—
