Pls help me remove stain from beloved blue t-shirt

I have a big brown stain on a bright turquoise t-shirt that has to be washed at 40 and is prone to colour run. I'm not sure what it is but the top candidates are either

wood varnish transfer from hanging it over the back of a chair to dry or
rust/iron/ other staining transfer from hanging it over an old ironing board to dry.

I've tried vanish stain remover and a 40 degree wash -nothing really happened.
I then tried putting neat washing liquid onto it, letting it soak in and very nervously washing at 60. This faded the stain quite a bit but its still there. The t-shirt did survive a hotter wash.

I've googled but all the advice I can find involves stuff like bleach or acetone or citrus based cleaners whcih I am nervous will bleach the colour of the t-shirt itself. It's one of those where I only wash it with dark stuff as it would turn a white wash blue.

Any ideas?

A lot of people on here believe in the stain removing powers of the sun. Have you got any? It's lovely and sunny here today! Try it out on the line with stain facing sun??

DidYeAyee · 08/09/2019 13:16

I wouldn't have washed it at 60, sorry!

Get a bar of cheap white hand soap and rub it on neat to the stain. Steep in the sink in cold water overnight then wash it at your usual 40.

My gran swears by this or toothpaste but the toothpaste is just for white clothing.

No sun - but I want it to take on holiday where there maybe sun. I could try it then. I doubt it would work as it looks quite imbeded.

Would Dove soap work @DidYeAyee?

Yes Dove would work, that's generally what I use on my work uniform which is impossible to keep clean.

Shaving foam. Leave it overnight and then wash it out. I managed to get red wine out of a white shirt doing this which is was surprised. Maybe give it a go? Also white toothpaste works well. I sometimes mix it with the shaving foam.

Ok - thanks both - I will give both a try

Any kind of shaving foam?

Any shaving foam as long as it’s white in colour

Sun does work brillaintly on tomato based stains..

XXcstatic · 08/09/2019 20:01

Sun will fade the blue.

I add bicarbonate of soda to my detergent. It should work on the stain and not affect the colour but you should do a patch test (try an inside seam).

Baby wipes seem to be pretty good on stubborn stains

I use washing up liquid on stains and used it recently on an oil stain on my partners hoodie. It works wonders!
