I have a s&b challenge if anyone is up for helping me. I've had a bad very year MH wide but in a better place now so want to treat myself to a new capsule wardrobe to feel good about myself. I have put on a lot of weight in a short space of time so current stats 16/18 ,5"9, wobbly hourglass with mahoosive boobs but saddlebags. Am (a young in my head) 39. Have reasonable budget (mid high street Hobbs/whistles/JL website). Work in the city, relaxed dress code so hoping to wear all to work too.

Have been up early googling and found a list! So am looking for five recommend actions for below:

  1. nice white trainers (can wear to work) am size 43 Confused
  2. good boots (wide calves)
  3. good jeans
  4. a nice blazer (smart casual)
  5. a smart trench coat

Thanks to anyone who read this far! Have already treated myself to new hair so feeli g better but any other tips welcome.

For the trainers, what about Veja? They’re the brand I’d like to get myself as a treat.

chatwoo · 07/09/2019 06:56

for 2) good boots
I have a pair of Duo boots, they are not cheap but come in different calf widths. I've had mine for a long time now and sadly don't wear them any more (hot country)! but they are worth a look.

Hobbs usually have nice trenches every year, classic styles. I’d go for one in a camel/cream colour that would work for smart or casual.

I like Jigsaw for trainers. If you definitely want white, then maybe these ones:

What style of jeans are you looking for? e.g. Skinny, straight, bootcut, girlfriend? Cropped or full length (lots of them seem to be cropped at the moment)?

BikeRunSki · 07/09/2019 07:28

I’m a shoe size 43, and fractionally shorter than you, 14/17. for the trainers, are your feet wide enough to wear men’s shoes? Loads of choice out there by googling “white leather trainers”. I have been wearing some from Crew Clothing all summer, but I have had a look and they don’t have them anymore.

Boots - YY to Duo. If you can get to a shop, even better, because they can be baggy in the ankle, so good chance to try a few styles.

Jeans - Boden straightleg, and bizarrely Sainsbury’s girlfriend, are the only jeans I have ever had which fit my wide calves.Boden straight leg

Blazer - I don’t get much from Joules, but their blazers fit my proportions perfectly. I have a long body for my height. Other than that I can’t advise.

Trench coat - no idea.

Cardigan - Woolovers or Celtic and Co, are my “go to” places for knitwear.

I love the jigsaw trainers, only got up to a 41 though. I'm a large eight, so often take 43 Hmm

I think you should check out Arket although when I was in there it was suspiciously light on the larger sizes in store, as were Cos next door ( I’m a bit suspicious about that) but they go up to an 18 . I tried on gorgeous white leather trainers in Cos and they were the most uncomfortable pair of shoes I’ve ever had on my feet. I tried on a few and went in the end for Veja- which apparently have better environmental credentials although I haven’t checked any of that out.

Divebar · 07/09/2019 07:43

Please don’t buy skinny jeans.... they’re so boring. Buy slim or girlfriend / boyfriend.

DerelictWreck · 07/09/2019 07:47

I wouldn't both with Duo boots - got my first pair last year after recommendations on here and they started falling apart immediately! Had to get them resoled after 3 months Shock

soupmaker · 07/09/2019 07:47

Hobbs or of all places M&S for a trench coat. If it's a forever one your after and you've got the money I'd get an Acqascutum trench.

That’s really disappointing. I’m still wearing some which are 7 years old. There isn’t s lot of choice fir wide calves though, especially if you don’t want elastic panels (which I hate!).

BikeRunSki · 07/09/2019 07:57
  • wide calves and size 43 feet

Cardigan: all saints, always natural fibres and wash well (on wool setting). Worth the splurge IMHO, I have one from 4 1/2 years ago still going strong and still getting compliments. As they are usually quite fine knit they also drape well too
Jeans: agree with @Divebar about skinny, check out uniqlo Curve jeans if you want to try something new without spending crazy money... love mine. (Although I wouldn’t style them with a long cardi)
