Please?

New job, have been told to wear 'smart casual office wear, definitely not a suit'. I think I spotted people in jeans when I went in for interview, but obviously not risking that on Monday. Options I have so far...

I think you look fine in all of them. I'd go for option 2 on my first day, I think - I've worked for 30 years in offices with rules from black/navy only, no trousers for women, to jeans. It's only by observing others that you figure out what works. Good luck for your first day!

Almost impossible, if on a moderate budget, to get any workwear that is NOT synthetic.

I wouldn’t worry about getting off on the wrong foot, vast majority of people won’t notice what colleagues wear unless especially stylish or outlandish!

The trousers with a slightly sharper shirt

Oh, and an interesting accessory - I’m thinking of a statement necklace.

Also, if you can’t find anything you like in JL, have you got good staples like a bag or winter coat?

I like option A. Sainsbury’s have some lovely blouses in at the moment if you need something fast. This is only £16.

Better blouse or shirt with those trousers.

I have a 'uniform' for work. M&S autograph slim leg ankle grazer trousers (they are a really nice thick fabric), nice top (t-shirt style or shirt), cashmere boyfriend cardigan, and loafers. I wear trousers in a thinner material in warmer weather, might wear sandals if hot. I am very boring, but don't have to think about what I am going to wear and always look ok.

Forgot to say, I like the first outfit best

Have you tried the personal shopping service at John Lewis/ Debenhams? Worth a go.
Also, try Pinterest for smart casual work outfits.
It's true that it's worth upping your game a bit if you're ambitious - that doesn't have to mean a suit (and certainly not if you've been told not to) but for eg there's a big difference between jeans and trainers and a t-shirt, and jeans, smarter shoes and a blazer.
I was told the trick with smart-casual for work is to make sure that if you wear jeans they're the most casual thing you have on, and similarly if you wear trainers they're the most casual aspect of your outfit.
Plus as others have said, just as important to feel well-groomed and for clothes and accessories to be in good condition.
I'm not a fan of cardigans for work unless they are good quality and pristine.

I really like B or C for a first day. Tiny bit smarter and first impressionish.
