Not wearing a bra

edgeofheaven · 06/09/2019 03:42

Friend of mine posted this article on FB Teen Vogue

I'm a 34DDD so not the smallest but I am tempted to try this now and again. I threw a t-shirt over a tight bodysuit (to hold me in) on the school run and the earth didn't shatter. It was more comfortable than I'd imagined it would be actually!

So - any tips for good camisoles/bodysuits/tank tops that I can use to go braless? Or any cautionary tales about why I shouldn't do it?

I often double up on vests to enable me to not wear a bra at home. Not really found the best solution for public though so watching this with interest.

Peony99 · 06/09/2019 04:16

I often do it if I'm not wearing anything too tight. Much comfier.

I'm only a 32C though.

edgeofheaven · 06/09/2019 07:39

@Shoeshelpplease so just two tight fitting vests? Not the type with the shelf bra built in I'm guessing?

@Peony99 what do you wear underneath the loose top - nothing?

I rarely wear a bra these days, but I'm an A-cup, which may not be a useful example for larger busts. I don't usually bother with a vest or camisole, just normal t-shirts and so on - I have never been one for wearing sheer tops, though. If you are wearing something more see-through, then you probably do need something.

I hate bras they are so uncomfortable. I’d like to go without more but worry about visible nipped! I often wear bralettes and crop tops like when I was 12.

I’m a 32B, pretty small

This is Teen Vogue. Those boobs in the Instagram pic are small and pert.

My 40something boobs are massive and droopy. Not happening for me.

PersonalJebus · 06/09/2019 09:35

no way, they need support or they will go all saggy

edgeofheaven · 06/09/2019 09:46

@PeriComoToes the friend who posted the article is 35 and a mum. She has decided not to wear bras for the past year or so.

@PersonalJebus not concerned about sagginess. After breastfeeding two babies I think they've withstood the worst already. I'd never go braless at work but on the weekends I want to give it a try. As mentioned it was really comfortable! I haven't purposely gone out of the house with a bra since I was about 12 so it was quite liberating Grin

@AshleighJHale thanks I'll check out Zara and the bralette link. Previous attempts at buying bralettes have failed, they always run a bit small.

Lovely! I do envy her (what size is she??) but honestly this is only for small breasts (and yes you're DDs are small compared to mine 😄).

Anyway, I shouldn't be on this thread as I have no advice to give. Good luck to you!

bobstersmum · 06/09/2019 09:54

Oh gosh I'd be so uncomfortable and self conscious without a bra! I'm 36f and after breastfeeding my nips are bloody huge! If it works for you though do it!

Wenttoseainasieve · 06/09/2019 10:10

I regularly go braless now I've stopped BFing and I'm a 32c again. Whilst I was an E cup it was really uncomfortable as they felt too heavy and jiggly, I hated it. I think it works best for small breasts which aren't saggy otherwise not comfortable.

Branleuse · 06/09/2019 10:16

im glad people are feeling they dont have to wear one. I prefer wearing one to disguise my nipples though, but so many bras are uncomfortable and most stores do not have a big enough range of sizes and shapes of bras.
If you have small boobs or perky boobs, I dont really see the point in strapping them up with wires

TheSpottedZebra · 06/09/2019 10:17

AshleighJHale you're meant to pay to advertise truly anyone on here.

Unless maybe you share some gossip - Does Peter Jones hate Holly W now?

Bouffalant · 06/09/2019 10:18

I hate wearing a bra, but i'm only a B cup so I can mostly get away with it.

I give less of a shit these days if my nipples are noticeable. They're just body parts. I'm more concerned about being comfy as I get older, and care less what other people think.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 06/09/2019 10:23

I've never worn a bra, I bought a few last year as I just wanted some nice matching underwear but very rarely wear them.

I'm 45 and a D cup and they're not saggy at all, still very pert, I just wear normal clothes, or a vest underneath if it's cold.

RushianDisney · 06/09/2019 10:24

I'm a 28 DD and I generally don't wear a bra day to day. I wear a very comfy yoga bra for work or anything active though. I used to absolutely love lingerie and had loads of beautiful bras, but I can't be arsed with anything uncomfortable nowadays.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 06/09/2019 10:25

You can probably see a nipple shadow through some clothes. I'm not really bothered though!

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 06/09/2019 11:04

I think this probably only works if you have small breasts. I'm a 38gg and without a bra I have no visible waist! I would love to have pert little boobies Sad

Whatthefoxgoingon · 06/09/2019 11:09

Mine are way too big to not wear a bra outside but I’m regularly braless at home in winter when I can wear a robe.
They will sag with age whether you wear a bra or not.

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 06/09/2019 12:07

I'm a 34G and quite regularly go without a bra, if the top I'm wearing has enough Lycra in it. I'm very lucky that my boobs have held up well after 2 DC though. However... if I have to run anywhere or do anything remotely physical, it's standard issue boulder holder all the way! Grin

Idontneeditatall · 06/09/2019 14:31

Those not wearing a bra, don’t your clothes rub on your nipples in a really uncomfortable way? I hate this when I’m wearing pj’s so couldn’t go without in the daytime when I’m walking about etc

ILikeyourHairyHands · 06/09/2019 15:22

Not that I've ever noticed IDont, maybe they toughen up over the years, the same as your soles do if you go barefoot everywhere...

Swiftier · 06/09/2019 16:35

I usually wear wireless soft bras or bralettes.

I recommend the Organic Basics ones, I really like them.

I also have a couple of vests from Uniqlo like this www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-heattech-jersey-sleeveless-bra-top-418336.html
