Underarm shaving rash help?

Bit of a weird one but for the last year or so, I've had quite frequent flare ups of what I thought was a shaving rash in the left armpit area. Only ever the left. I've tried all sorts of solutions - changing shaving foam to soap/natural products, changed razors, shaved and deodorised right underarm first (weird, I know, but thought it might confuse it!) and it's still happening.

Has anyone ever experienced similar and has any tips on what I can do to escape the painful rash that follows? It's more than a shaving rash as it turns into quite red, angry spots which do clear up on their own eventually but they're bloody uncomfortable in the meantime.

Please enlighten me with your collective wisdom oh S & B mavens.

It!s weird that it’s just one arm. I wonder if you are applying different pressure to the other.

It sounds as if it is not healing properly and the next shave is causing it to flare up again. Have you tried Calendula cream on it?
If not give that a try along with a course of anti-histamine tablets. If that fails talk to a pharmacist.

Thanks, Starlight. I'll definitely give the calendula a go as it's just irritating now. I think you're right about shaving making it flare up again so I'll try to go longer between shaves which just feels weird but I'll persevere!

Yes - I switched to an electric razor as the shave isn't as close but is still good enough. No more rashes and lovely and quick.

I have an electric razor but always been paranoid about nicking the skin but I'll have to give it a go as anything is better than this horrible, painful, one-sided rash Sad

Not sure if it's same but I have tender red skin when I used to shave only in arm pits. I had to stop shaving and use hair removing creams only in arm pit. It's due to hair follicles collecting bacteria or something like that. It's helped to avoid deo and non perfumed soaps.

Don't shave.v Sorted.

Use an electric razor and apply sudocreme and one drop of tea tree oil. Always sorts me out

Rather strangely I have exactly the same thing under my left arm only! How strange. I’m going to try a thin layer of hydrocortisone cream and leave off shaving for a bit.

I'm strangely comforted that it's not just me! Thanks for the tips everyone. I think I'll try some of the creams suggested to clear it up initially then change to an electric shaver. Might even leave longer between shaves with the colder months coming up; might keep me warmer Grin
