Botox advice, please

I’m booked in for Botox on Monday with a trusted person (dentist).

I’ve mentioned it to a couple of people and they’ve all said “why?!”

I booked it because I’ve been under a lot of stress recently and feel my forehead has been carrying it. I don’t want a completely smooth forehead - I’m nearly 42. My main concern is that I need to show empathy for work through my face at work and so need to keep some movement in my eyebrows/forehead. Have been told that isn’t possible.

Can anyone help?

It is possible to retain movement. Discuss this with the person doing it, they will put in an amount they think is right. Then when you go for your check up a couple of weeks later you can always have some more

I’ve been having Botox for two years and no one has ever noticed, not even my husband. Honestly, if it’s done well you’ll still have expressions!

Writersblock2 · 31/08/2019 17:56

It’s definitely possible to retain some movement. If the dentist administering it knows what she’s doing then it should be fine. Or ask for it to be conservative and go back if you want more - most offer a top-up in with the price.

@Sazquatch where do you go please?

Sazquatch · 31/08/2019 22:10

@Lndnmummy I’m in a wee town in the west of Scotland, and from your name I’m guessing you’re in London?

Boobiliboobiliboo · 01/09/2019 13:07

Phew. Thank you.

I can still move my face and display empathy - I just can’t scrunch it up. I have a small dose and then it tweaked at the two week top up. Think it would be called ‘baby botox’. Like you I had it done after a very stressful time and was carrying all my tension in my forehead. It has had the knock on benefit of stopping my tension headaches and helping me feel a bit more serene!

I have it and no one noticed, I was just told I looked well. Still have some movement, but i look much fresher and more awake.

I don’t think a dentist is necessary the gold standard for administering cosmetic Botox treatment though, you want a doctor (pref a cosmetic consultant). If you don’t think the dentist can achieve the subtle results you’re after, then go elsewhere. Because once Botox is injected you can’t actually do anything to reverse it, you have to wait however long it take to fade.

iwillkeepthishouseclean · 01/09/2019 13:59

As long as it's done right you can have movement I still do, be clear with anyone who is doing it!

I had a friend who’s a dentist do Botox for me for the first time ever just this Monday! It’s still bedding in but so far I’m pretty happy with the result. I had deep elevens, similar to you and THEY HAVE GONE! Also lost my crows feet which I am loving, but I definitely still look normal when I smile!
Forehead I am still waiting to decide on - I can’t SEE any noticeable brow drop, but I do FEEL like my eyelids are more hooded at the moment. The lines have gone but it’s definitely the area that feels the weirdest, and I’m only now realise how much I normally raise my brows!

Boobiliboobiliboo · 01/09/2019 14:41

I definitely don’t want any brow drop. Shock

Me either! I’m not sure if maybe it’s just a sensation thing as like I said, I can’t really notice a visible difference, but I was warned it can happen. I suppose it’s more likely if you’re usually a very expressive person with your brows? Once they relax, everything just flattens a bit?

Good luck on Monday!

All went well. He agreed not to do too much initially. He took “before” pics of my wrinkles on my phone. Didn’t find it uncomfortable or painful when the needles went in. Had a bit of a headache last night (and had to stay upright until 12:30am which wasn’t great before a 6:30am start).

Forehead feeling a bit sensitive today but expect that’s normal.

I have just realised I have a 90 min massage booked tomorrow. Am I going to be okay lying face down for that long?

I think it’s about 4 hours you have to remain upright. What time was your appointment? You had to stay up late!

It’s fine the next day I’m told. Just don’t have your face massaged.

Boobiliboobiliboo · 03/09/2019 21:10

Appt was 8-8:30pm.

It will be a bit less than 48 hours when I have my massage. (5:30-7pm).

You’re fine OP - I was at the gym with my PT trying to kill me the day after mine!

Glad it went well, I hope you enjoy seeing the transformation! I’m a week in and it’s settled really nicely so far. First couple of days my forehead was making some weird shapes if I tried to raise my brows (uneven muscle effort) but it’s smoothed right out now (1 week after). I’ve had to just how I apply mascara though as I used to raise my brows to stop the wand brushing my eyelid and obviously I can’t do that anymore! Grin
