Orthotics and shoes

CanISpeakToYourManager · 29/08/2019 18:16

I have to wear orthotic inserts, which have to go in shoes with a 10-12 mm drop. So I've got a pair of black trainers, fine, and a pair of Waldlaufer sandals - both of these will take the insoles.

But I am getting depressed with only having these shoes. I'm going back to the podiatrist in a few weeks, but thought I'd see if anyone here has any tips. I'm even considering getting some handmade shoes!

What would you like to wear? I suppose heels are out?

I have some insoles, in winter I wear them with my boots with no issues so loads of choice then.
Summer however is a misery to find shoes to wear them with. I normally have my trainers on or wear something with a little heel or my ballet crocs and forgo the insole, but I know my feet will hurt more end of day.
I've tried to find converse style shoes to wear with my insoles but it doesn't then grip my heel enough at the back so they slip.
I'm just recovering from flat foot reconstructive surgery (2 weeks down, lots to go), and was hoping I'd be able to ditch the insoles, alas no, the podiatric surgeon says I'll still need them.
If anyone comes up with some good suggestions I'm also interested.

I know a podiatrist who makes these and he is always telling me off for wearing converse. He says rigid souls and a show that holds the foot (so no slip ons) are best. I like brogues luckily!

Boots are easy enough...try Heavenly Feet or Shuropody. Get ones with removable insoles so you can put your insoles in. What sort of trouble do you have with feet (sort of insole?)

(Also, in a whisper....Hotter Shoes can occasionally have reasonable footwear!)

oh....and I also get told off for anything like Converse or Sketchers!

I like Ecco or Geox - you can get some that aren’t ‘old lady’ but as I said, I like brogues so they are ‘sensible shoes’.

Padders do shoe/boots with removable insoles, they are reasonably priced.
My favourites though are Think! Shoes, they can be expensive but can often find end of ranges on eBay for a lot less

What about some Dr martens?

Thanks so much everyone, I lost this thread for a bit but found it again! Will have a look at these.

My favourite all-rounder shoes were Clarks Funny Dream but they don't have enough room for an insole.

I can't remember the name of my problem. Forefoot equinus but also something else to do with my big toe joint being dropped. I can't even walk around my house barefoot for an hour without them hurting now so I wear shoes all the time.

Oh, also Waldlaufer Hilena sandals have been good - removable insole, heel cup and totally adjustable straps at toe and instep.
