Hi everyone! Really pleased it's not just me! I think it's good start off with your favourite item of clothing (or most worn) and then build around that if you are starting afresh. Unless you are totally sick of your entire wardrobe and want to start again from scratch.
I think preppy can be altered to meet a lot of individual taste. The breton and blazer rut is a common pitfall of preppy. Great if you love it - timeless, classic etc but can become boring. That's why it's helpful to personalise it to you rather than copy it straight off Pintrest.
It won't be to everyone's taste but I have, for example, an (old) university hoodie, a jacket and a college tshirt that I think look good with other clothes because their condition is still good (no fraying, vibrant colour, no stitching come undone) so they do look good with a body warmer, jeans and riding style boots.
Whereas other people wouldn't dream of wearing anything with writing on as that's a no-no for them.
Also think about fabrics. Checked shirts are very popular with the old college preppy look but with a big chest I feel like checked shirts look common and untidy on me. I feel like they look amazing on less chesty figures though (I'm thinking Duchess Kate before she became duchess!) not bragging about chest AT ALL in fact shopping preppy style would be a hell of a lot easier if my chest was smaller - it's a regular annoyance for me.
Colours are usually navy blue, green, neutral, browns but they don't have to be! If you prefer brighter colours and they suit you then experiment. Preppy doesn't have to equal navy blue all the time! Kelly prepster? I think on YouTube is a great example of a stylish blonde preppy style with vibrant colours.
Pintrest is great.... but looking at what you already have and getting out there and trying stuff on is the best way. I know a friend who only wears preppy stuff when she walks her dogs 😂 The rest of the time she wears band tshirts, slashed jeans and is very much into the rock style. You won't know if it's for you unless you try it.
I don't care how preppy it is - I hate the duck boots and I hate wax jackets so I'll never wear them. And wool makes me itch so I'll be leaving anything along those lines.
I feel dressing preppy makes me feel put together. It doesn't raise my social class or change how much money I have in the bank but I feel good when I'm dressed in preppy so that's why I do it! It's also really easy to mix and match preppy stuff which I like because some days I can be lazy (not a morning person) so I like to know that a + b + c = a great outfit without looking like I've tried too hard.
I'm really glad others are interested or considering preppy style or takes on the preppy style. At some point this week I will add some inspiration pics/ files 😊
