Size 14-16 school wear

Hi,
I'm a size 14-16 and I need a whole new wardrobe for school.
I'm a classroom teacher and I need to look smart, but I can't afford to spend a fortune...
Does anybody have any suggestions for a four day, capsule wardrobe?
Where should I go?
What should I buy?
I'm 5'2 and wrong side of 40.
Help?

I love Sainsburys clothing range. It's hit and miss but every now and then, there's items I don't want to take off again. I had a pair of very loose, wide legged smart trousers second hand but from there, which I wore casually because I adored them so much. Their clothing usually lasts much better than other supermarkets and they also often do funky colours and patterns, specially for autumn or spring

Tu (Sainsbury’s clothes brand) might be worth looking at for practical on a tight budget.

Thirding Sainsbury's. I was 3 days and had black trousers and three longish, patterned tops which were an easy, no-thought-necessary uniform. They get tops like that in regularly so you can replace them as they wear, but things are generally pretty good quality.

Choose your main colour
Navy for example

Navy trousers
Navy skirt
2 white tops
1 yellow top
1 pink top
1 cardigan
Comfy navy shoes
Jewellery

Try fat face for tunics
Sea salt
Next for basics

Sainsbury's sounds the way to go! I'll pop along this week and have a look - thanks very much everybody.

Bumbags, thank you, I'll try to have a think about the colours I want to incorporate and compile a wardrobe as you've suggested.

I'm the same size and height as you. I do tunics and thick tights a lot or in summer skater style dresses with a light coloured jacket. Occasionally I go smart with a pencil skirt / jacket but always feel uncomfortable and trussed up. I'm not very good at the coordinating thing.. Would love to have a mix and match wardrobe!

Look at ebay for good quality second hand clothes. I've bought some lovely dresses for a fraction of the cost and all barely worn.

Tesco always has great items as does George at Asda.

If you have a TK Maxx near you then definitely go in there too.
