What is your success, your hair type and products you added afterward to compensate (if at all)

My hair gets greasy pretty quickly when I use conditioner too often because it is fine and non porous. I've tried using shampoo only or shampoo after conditioner but it then feels too dry as it is lacking the protective layer from a conditioner so I need something. I've just started using a solid conditioner from Lush - I'm sure there are many other brands available. I can see how a lot of people wouldn't get on with these as they are nowhere near the same level as goopyness as you get from a liquid conditioner. For my hair, however, they're perfect. Just enough to give light protection but not too much start the grease. I then use a hair mask once a fortnight or so just to provide some actual conditioning treatment.

I have quite thick wavy hair. I only use shampoo and then a little hair oil on towel dried hair and it's always nice and shiny.

I do give it a little conditioning mask maybe once a month.

I only use a light foam conditioner once or at the most twice a week. Like a pp I've got really fine hair prone to getting greasy so this is definitely enough for me.

I previously didn't use conditioner at all but my new hairdresser said I should as I wash my hair every day.

I like the sound of the solid conditioner from Lush - will pop in next time I'm in town and have a look!

I have short hair and have started reacting to a lot of shampoos and conditioners so stick to the shampoos I know are OK (SLS and paraben free). Don't use any other products on my hair except my shampoo.

Thanks you so much for your posts.

Can anyone suggest any super moisturising shampoos that are sulphate and paraben free? My hair is super dry so suspect I need might be similar to needing something to keep moisture in.

Try the Shea Moisture range, or Dr Organic.

I never use conditioner. My holy grail shampoo is Tigi Bed Head Urban Antidotes (level 3).

I was a child before conditioners were easily available. They were only used in expensive hairdressers and there was an additional charge.

I discovered 'cream rinse' or maybe even 'creme rinse' in Woolworths in my teens. It was a revelation. Prior to that my hair was a coarse, frizzy mess and I hated it. It was only 'conditioner that allowed me to make peace with my hair.
Now in my 60s my ginger frizz having gone through a glorious red haired adulthood is now almost white. I still prefer to use conditioner - but lightly and it isn't such an issue if I don't.

I don't use conditioner as, like others, my hair gets greasy. I have reasonably thick, jaw length straight hair. I've trialled expensive shampoos and truthfully, I like Inecto coconut shampoo (which is £1 in my local Poundstretcher type shop). Paraben etc free, claims to be vegan, smells fab...

Once a week I do find it needs washed with something deep cleansing to make it squeaky clean, then conditioned 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’ve not used conditioner in years. I use the aussie range. No issues here.

frugalkitty · 28/08/2019 22:00

I need a light conditioner when I use it or I get spots along my hairline. If I have a bath (once, maybe twice a week) I don't use conditioner as I can't rinse it out as well as when I shower, but I always use a pump of Liz Earle hair oil afterwards which is enough by itself. Not sure I could give up conditioner completely though as my hair is thick and wavy and I worry about heat damage not enough to give up my straighteners though Grin
