Microblading

I really like the outcomes others have had from having Microblading done. There is someone in my area who is very good and does both the very obvious ones to the more natural. Problem for me is, I'm shitting myself in case I don't like them!

I'm just wondering if anyone else who has had them done felt like this, and what they did to make sure they made the right decision before jumping in? Its not as if they can easily be washed off. I'm a redhead but my eyebrows arent ginger (and indeed all the other areas are red (!!) but bizarrely my eyebrows are a bit darker!!! I also dont have much in the way of eyebrows.

I know they can draw all of these lines on your eyebrows to give you an idea, which is fine in theory but it still doesn't give you an idea of what the colour will look like :/

Help :)

Look at examples of her work. If she’s good then she’ll know what colour and shape will suit you

123andBreathe · 27/08/2019 19:28

Also ask about keloid scarring risk.
Have you got any tattoos or piercings already?
Redheads, fair skin or black are more at risk.

DreamingofSunshine · 27/08/2019 20:20

I was really nervous too but I researched a great therapist who does a natural look. Mine look subtle and only I can tell they are done as it's just filled in the gaps I had near my nose on each side. I look less done than before when I wore brow products etc. I'm very happy with it and glad I got it done.

AliciaQuays · 27/08/2019 20:23

Christ you’re seriously over thinking. It’s just like a threading and exfoliation

AliciaQuays · 27/08/2019 20:24

Oh ha ha. Excuse me. Read derma planing.

Don’t like the look of micro blading

Havingkittens · 29/08/2019 09:38

Research artists in your area (and surrounding area too - you're effectively having your face tattooed so it's worth travelling a bit further if your local artists don't have work that you admire and would be willing to have on your face). It's worth talking to artist that offer both microblading and machine work as they will be more likely to give an unbiased opinion on which technique will work better for you. For example, microblading will end up blurring and fading quickly on oily skin, in which case having them done by machine would be better. They can recreate the fine individual hair strokes using this method too, or create a powder brow (like you've filled them in with eyeshadow) if you prefer that style. The individual hairstrokes are always likely to blur on very oily skin, whichever method you go for but less so with a machine.

Looking on artist's Instagram pages is the best way to find an artist you like.

Thank you very much for your replies. Sorry I've taken a while to come back, it turned out to be quite a crazy week!

The problem is I do have oily skin but I don't like that blocky look. If I'm getting it done I want them to be defined but very natural. The way I say it, I can boost them up more if and when I want to with warpaint! I wish I could see what they will be like exactly before they are done but I suppose most folk feel like that. I think I'm going to have to go for the most natural option and see how it takes as I don't want the really really obviously been done look. I need to put down a deposit to reserve my appointment now. I've got a consultation next month so I'm hoping the woman can try and draw them on so I can get a really good idea of whether or not I should take the plunge. I don't have many female pals and my h would think the whole thing is ridiculous which is why I'm asking you lot! I may post a picture of my eyebrows tonight and you can give me your opinion on whether or not this is a good idea. Thank you all!!

Hey, I have mine done. I went for a natural look, I’m very happy with it. I spent a lot of time researching and went for the best therapist I could find. Expect to spend more on a good one. I went for a consultation - she drew the eyebrows on with a pencil and spent time getting them just right, adjusting them etc. Good luck with your consultation! Oh and by the way expect some time recovering - you might not want to book it in on a quiet week as they do look quite dark initially and might be a bit red or flakey as they heal.

Swiftier · 30/08/2019 17:23

Should have said also, I’ve auburn-copper hair but my brows are a different colour to my hair, dark brown.

GreyHare · 30/08/2019 20:04

I have oily skin and have had mine done, I do need to top them up yearly as they fade quickly on my skin, I also had reddish mousey hair, I am mostly grey now, but my lady mixed up my colour so it is warm but dark and suits me perfectly, as they fade I just pop either a dab of brow powder or touch them up with a pencil.

As for deciding on a Microblader make sure the pictures she posts are of her work, I've seen some dodgy dodgy work on facebook of people using others work to advertise their services but their actual results that they then post are shocking.

TheGirlWithGlassFeet · 30/08/2019 22:32

Go for it. You'll probably like it and if not you'll get a good story out of it Smile

Writersblock2 · 31/08/2019 06:27

If advise against if oily. They will fade much more quickly and you’re only able to get so many top ups before you run the risk of scarring (you are cutting into your skin). For oily, they recommend semi-permanent instead of microblading. I’m oily and had microblading. It looked great but it fades within about nine months. This time I’ve gone for SPM ombré brows and I should get a good 18-24 months before top up. Plus I can have as many top ups as needed over the years (in theory) compared to MB.

bakedbeanzontoast · 31/08/2019 15:57

So here is my eyebrow (I can't believe I'm doing this lol). Aside from the shitty picture, you can see the eyebrow is a different colour from my hair 🥴. As you can also see I don't have much in the way of eyebrows. So it really needs to be something defined but still very natural. I'm going to see the lady on the 10th.

@Writersblock2 but did you get a natural result with the ombré? I think ombré can look good; I just can't see it working on me you know?

Oh OP, if you have oily skin I wouldn't chance it! I have oily skin. I went to a therapist whose work looked brilliant, I did the two appointments, any by the time they'd healed they'd practically disappeared again. I just have a few blurry shadows now, 6m after I'd had them done you couldn't tell they'd been done at all, and I paid £300 for them!

I should have complained tbh but I didn't see what she could do about it. I didn't want them redone just to have the same thing happen.

I was later told they often fade on oily skin.

bakedbeanzontoast · 31/08/2019 17:52

@BoomyBooms crap! Is there a natural technique for us oily folks?! I wouldn't want to risk ending up with caterpillars that won't come off!!! I'll let you know what she says at the consultation 👍🏻

Here are my brows, I have oily skin and as I said above had red/warm mousey hair and dark eyebrows, until one decided to fall out.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 31/08/2019 18:34

I have oily skin and had semi.perm brows with a machine/needle. They do fade but I had extra ink put in last time I topped up. Lasts around 8 months but at £120 a top up this is affordable to maintain.

BoomyBooms · 31/08/2019 20:19

Do have a chat... Seems like others with oily skin here haven't had as bad an experience! Good luck!

CarpetDiem · 01/09/2019 02:32

I had them done by a good brow artist who warned me that due to my oily skin they might fade/ blur and that’s exactly what’s happened. They’ve faded into a grey colour and are blurry now- whereas they were sharp hair strokes at first. I won’t get it done again- mainly because I found it incredibly painful!

bakedbeanzontoast · 13/10/2019 18:43

Update: I went for it on Friday and so glad I did - I love them. I've gotten Microblading and shading but I'm going to go combination if they don't hold. I have the follow up appointment in November. I'm climbing the walls though because I cant sweat (so go hard at the gym) but I'm trying to persevere.

I hope they stick, but if not Ill go for combo in 6 months time. At least now I actually know I like the effect.

Thank you for everyone's contributions!!

@GreyHare how long after your treatments did you take that picture? They are nice 👍🏻

OP posts:
GreyHare · 13/10/2019 18:57

I was a month or two, the healing is a pain but a week or two of no sweating for having perfect brows isn't a great hardship. I think the scraping sound is the worst part of having it done.
