Help me with a capsule work wardrobe for new job...

I am due to start a new job in a couple of months time. The dress code is slightly more relaxed and a bit "edgier" than my current employer's dress code which is quite corporate.

At the moment my winter wardrobe is mainly skirts (pencil type or tweed type short skirts) with thick black tights and a variety of knits/ shirts and either loafers or court shoes.

I think this will be too smart having seen what people were wearing. I really struggle with how to wear trousers in the winter as most of mine are slightly cropped/ capri so I never know what footwear to put with them in winter.

I also love maxi skirts and think I could wear these in my new job but again don't really have any footwear, trainers would be too casual. Similary would be open to more casual dresses but not sure what or how to style these.

I am quite tall (5 foot 9) and am a size 8/10.

Any ideas? Thank you.

Can you see yourself in something like this?

100% Stablecarols that is exactly the kind of look I would like to go for you have nailed it in one reply.... I just wonder though if that works in the dead of winter with the bare feet and shoe thing...

Also are those dark coloured jeans? Maybe that is what I need instead of trousers. I have lots of pairs of Zara slim leg type trousers but they are above the ankle on me.

Ah great! In that case, my idea for a capsule wardrobe would be:

  1. Slim fit jeans in dark washes
  2. Shirts (in both block colours and patterned) that are less "stiff" so maybe something like those Rayon blouses I see in high street shops
  3. Slim cut blazers in cream/light pink/light blue/light grey and maybe some darker ones for winter
  4. Nude/black heels
  5. Coloured flats for when you're feeling a bit more summer-y
  6. Plain coloured slightly flared dresses so it'll be something like i.styleoholic.com/2017/04/15-a-little-black-dress-a-floral-blazer-and-nude-heels.jpg

Cropped jeans work fine too IMO. For winter if you'll be outdoors for long hours maybe some ankle boots might work.

This is what I'd wear in winter. Can always switch the shirt out for a button-down if you need something more formal!

I wear snazzy socks and brogues with ankle skimmers in the winter. Ankleboots with skirts and opaques and with trousers only when it's still warm enough for that flash of bare skin (I wear trsiner socks to keep my toes cozy).

I wear flesh-toned knee-highs when I want to wear cropped or ankle-length trousers and it's so cold I can't bear to bare.

Another option to edge/casual your look down a bit is to wear trainers with your usual look. I just bought these: www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-flora-lace-up-trainers/p4287037 at John Lewis as part of my restyle for a new job at a media company and I expect to be wearing them with everything.
