Any hairdressers out there... DD aged 13 has made a mistake...

I've been away with work for the week. Cone home and DD (13, nearly 14) is a gingery yellowish blonde with already visible roots. Apparently she's been using John Frieda Go Blonder shampoo and spray-(looking at the bottles it's posh Sun-In!)
Apparently it looked really great for a few days so she kept in using , but the last application plus a really hot day pushed it too far.

Are there any semi perm rinses that could fix this without making her hair darker?

Thanks!

"Come" home
Should also add she's naturally dark blond with waist length hair!

Purple shampoo?

Veterinari · 25/08/2019 20:26

Yeah purple shampoo - leave on for 20 minutes or so

fiorentina · 25/08/2019 20:43

I feel for her. I had a similar issue with sun in at her age, it went very orangey. Purple shampoo to try first. I did eventually get mine coloured over.

hopefullyhelpfully · 25/08/2019 21:08

Purple shampoo it is! However this won't fix the fact it's too light....when you had to fix it what did you do?

How about taking her to an actual hairdresser instead of asking people online.

incontrolofmyownlife · 25/08/2019 21:35

Oh shut up @yikesanddang 🙄

OP I have no suggestions but hope it gets sorted! Get a few photos so she can look back and laugh Grin

fiorentina · 25/08/2019 22:25

I had low lights or similar added in to darken it back. Maybe a hairdresser could make it more balayage by darkening the roots to her natural colour?

hopefullyhelpfully · 26/08/2019 09:59

Thanks everyone. (Except yikesanddang who was weirdly snippy for a post entitled "Any hairdressers out there"!)
I'll try purple shampoo and if that doesn't work Hairdresser's it is.

If the purple shampoo doesn’t work I would be tempted to stick a light ash brown or dark ash blond over the top. If you have a branch of Sally’s near you they are often very helpful and can probably advise. We all do it, i remember being unintentionally navy blue at the same time my friend was sporting khaki hair after a bad episode with sun in. It’s a rite of passage really 😁

healththrowawayx · 27/08/2019 17:52

The thing is, to remove the ginger undertone her hair actually needs to be bleached, even if you don’t want it any lighter. Bleach will remove the ginger tones, dye can’t unfortunately. Any dye that can cover the ginger will essentially make her hair darker, probably more of a light brown at best. Use the purple shampoo a few times and see how it settles for now.

Also, I’m confused because you said: ‘fix this without making her hair darker’ in the OP and then ‘this won't fix the fact it's too light’ - which one is it?

Exceptyikesanddangwho was weirdly snippy for a post entitled "Any hairdressers out there

Presumably being snippy comes with the job, no? Grin

I'll get my coat Blush

CountFosco · 27/08/2019 18:00

Tell her it's 'strawberry blond'. More kindly purple shampoo.

CoolShoeshine · 27/08/2019 22:34

When I was a similar age I put neat hair bleach on my hair when my parents had gone out for the day. It went bright orangey yellow Grin.
When my mum got back she stuck an ash blonde permanent box dye on top and I’ve had pretty much the same colour ever since!
