Please help me find a sunscreen that doesn't hurt my eyes!

It doesn't seem to matter how I apply it or where, if it's baking hot and I'm sweating, whatever sunscreen I seem to use drips into my eyes and I'm left in so much pain. Went out earlier and when I came home after 4 hours, I had to scrub my face to save my poor eyes and even a few hours later, they still sting a bit.

I've tried face specific sunscreens and they make no difference. I've tried applying it an hour or so before going out so it sinks into my skin more but again no difference. My daily moisturiser has spf 15 but I'm aware that I need an extra spf as that's not enough for my pale skin - I need factor 30 or 50. Is there a type of sunscreen I should be looking for? Ingredients I should avoid? Any recommendations welcome!

My Lancer sun shield is factor 50 and never does this. Although I'm not particularly sweaty

babooshkamybush · 24/08/2019 17:53

Best facial sunscreen I have tried is mimitika. You can get it online at feel unique and other places I'm sure. Doesn't sting eyes or leave a white cast or smell vile. It's very good - I first tried a sample in a beauty box.

RedCowboyBoots · 24/08/2019 17:54

Don't put it on your forehead and wear a hat.

GreyTS · 24/08/2019 18:09

I run and when I sweat most sunscreen gets into my eyes and stings, last year I discovered 2 that don't, the first is a Eucerin gel cream that I got in a pharmacy in France and the other is la Roche Posay Anthelios Shaka Ultra Light Facial Sun Cream which seems to be available everywhere

RunsForGummyBears · 24/08/2019 18:15

I've had good luck with Eau Thermake Avene sunscreens and the tinted moisturiser from Beauty Pie. Everything else makes my eyes water even if I don't apply it anywhere near my eyes. :(

Thank you so much for all the recommendations - I will take a look and hopefully find something that works!

La Roche-Posay one that says sensitive eyes on it.

hungryhippie · 24/08/2019 18:21

One of the more natural sunscreens may be better. The usual ones sting my eyes too, but that has never happened with the one from Green People. It's factor 30.

Apileofballyhoo · 24/08/2019 18:23

Looks like this. Interested in the other brands to try as I'd prefer a mineral sunscreen and not to pay as much for a measly 50ml.

I have had this all my life! I now use Ultrasun tinted sunscreen and it doesn't go in my eyes even when swimming. You need a waterproof one for sure.

Parkrunner25 · 24/08/2019 18:26

Put a small amount of Vaseline on each eyebrow, it will stop the sweat dripping in to your eyes (it will go round your brows instead).

Missingstreetlife · 24/08/2019 18:27

Malibu. Cheap from Poundland. Or ultrasun, not cheap. A hat is better

feesh · 24/08/2019 18:39

La Roche Posay Anthelios has this effect on me! I just had to chuck an almost full bottle away. The only facial sunscreen I can cope with is Boots No 7 Factor 50 CC cream. It also makes my skin look great so I wear it every day.

notasgreenasiamcabbagelooking · 24/08/2019 18:48

I have really sensitive eyes and the only thing that doesn't sting them is a factor 50 Eucerin one for sensitive skin. I think they do it in factor 30 too. It's this one www.boots.com/eucerin-sun-face-cream-sensitive-protect-spf50-50ml-10247541 and unlike the reviewer there I think it works really well under makeup, although I have dry skin.

DocMarteens · 24/08/2019 20:41

Use anything my Heliocare - they don't melt into the eyes

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 24/08/2019 20:56

I have always had this problem but switched to Antihelilos as shown by @Apileofballyhoo upthread. It's massively better.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/08/2019 21:53

The heliocare mineral one is fab for around the eyes. Takes a while to sink in but I actually use it as a bit of a concealer/ Brightener/ tinted moisturiser around my eyes.

Any mineral one should be good. I find altruist is really good too but it melts eye make up.

Shinygoldbauble · 24/08/2019 22:07

I have a massive problem with this. I've had to stop using moisturiser and make up with SPF. I had recurrent blepharitis and eventually I realised that SPF was causing the problem. Just having the SPF on my face, no where near my eyes is enough to set my eyes stinging, wouldn't have to be sweating or touching my face.
Since I stopped my eyes are 100% better.
It does worry me but I don't spend a lot of time in the sun and I just wear a hat and big sunglasses.

AntiHop · 24/08/2019 22:13

I used to have this problem but switched to a roll on stick type and now have no problem. I use either boots or superdrug own brand. Their both labelled as children's suncream. I can even put it on my eyelids and eyebrows!

Peachee · 24/08/2019 22:18

I have this every year it's horrible.. however this year i used the Palmers coco butter and the tropic sun oil this year and never had a problem.

Jxtina86 · 24/08/2019 22:22

Even more suggestions and recommendations - thank you! Will take a look tomorrow whilst I sit under the largest parasol ever in the garden...!

Frezyderm Sun screen velvet 50 is lovely. Velvety as you put it on and doesn't feel like suncream at all. I've just used it on Spanish holiday everyday.

Jxtina86 · 24/08/2019 22:24

@Shinygoldbauble see that's the odd thing- I don't have any issues if I just wear my moisturiser with its spf15. It's only if I wear an additional sunscreen or just sunscreen alone. That's awful that you have that reaction to even moisturiser or make up with it. Hat and sunglasses the way to go as you say! I struggle with hats - one size fits all is a lie...

My moisturiser/sunscreen is factor 30 and I use it on my eyelids too. If it gets in my eyes I can feel it for a bit, but not stingy. amazon.co.uk/Natio-Plus-Face-Moisturiser-100g/dp/B004WI5CNG/ref=sr_1_5?crid=HWLGZQPZFEO1&keywords=natio+for+men+30+plus+face+moisturiser+100g&qid=1566682552&s=gateway&sprefix=natio+for+men%2Caps%2C125&sr=8-5 Natio for Men]]
