A Baking Apple...what to wear on holiday

Hoping for advice about what to wear in a hot (humid) place with beaches- tourist sites- and possible formal night out.

I have lost almost 50 pounds but am still a bit overweight (a stone) and am an apple with no waist- long legs (with some blue veins now) and smallish bust.
I am in my prime (almost old) and with grown up children.

What should I pack / buy for my 2 week stay?

I think that I need a flattering (miracle) swimsuit
Cool things to sight-see in
Something that looks amazing for eve but won't crush much.

Is there hope? Smile

I've attached a photo
Search v neck dress, they were £17.99 but have been reduced to £9 however not much stock left online but they had some in-store when I went in last week
I bought a variety of colour and they are fine to wear as a dress

Gap cotton swing dresses can be good.

LOVE the first two Justaweeone! 💗 I want both- for all occasions from now on!

Recent experience (this afternoon) shows conclusively that 'belted detail' leaves me looking cushionly Confused so I might not go for the others on your list yet.

I sent for a linen shift dress as suggested earlier in the thread (Thankyou both) and tried it today. It was a size lower than I thought would fit... but just does! Smile it is in my holiday pile right now.

Cocoon dresses are your friend if you want to disguise a belly. I’d never heard of them until I had a style session a year ago, and I’ve lived in them ever since. Always lots available on eBay.

I think that you are right @permanentlyfrazzled1 . Recent trial and error shows that that cocoon shape seems to create an illusion of slimness.

I think that the 'empire line' - with the waisted place being just under the bust (Jane Austen style) seems to look better too. (I was afraid that it would make me look pregnant but it can just skim the absence of real waist.) Has anyone seen this style - or must I go back to Georgian England?

I've been living in these sandals all summer:

www.zalando.ie/wallis-strawberry-sandals-wl511a042-f11.html

They are extremely comfortable, but also help make me look a bit less frumpy in my comfort-over-style clothes!!

WhereforeArtThouManatee · 27/08/2019 13:57

I am very apple, what I've learned is that empire style but where the under-bust section is flat rather than gathered looks really good.

No ties / belts / pleats / gathers in the mid section of the empire line - I've actually taken to removing them from dresses where possible!! But then keep the gathers or whatever all around the back from roughly 6 inches in front of each side seam, to give some shape and prevent it looking like a tent.

1Wildheartsease · 27/08/2019 15:14

I like the look of those sandals @WhereforeArtThouManatee.

+Yes - the unpleated /uncluttered front seems to be important.

Tried a miracle-fit swimsuit but without complete success so far.

I really don't look like the model - or perhaps I do but only if she had decided to store a bag of potatoes in the belly section!

I will need to work on seeing my new beachside image as bumpy-beautiful... :)

thanks for your help!

I am now the owner of a tankini😀 ... just hoping it won't end up floating round my neck in the sea/pool. 😬

It does look good dry(skims my belly) in a cunning way.
Having never ever had a bikini, this is quite a step.

I have a a linen top and cocoon dress too.

I had a tankini too with shorts for a holiday in July. I've also never worn a bikini before and I'm a size 20.
The top did float up a bit when first getting in the pool but when you swim it stayed down.
I felt happy and confident in it, which I would never have done wearing a normal swimsuit.
I'm converted.

1Wildheartsease · 09/09/2019 07:41

That is cheering @snozzlemaid

Packing linen is fine, just roll it carefully instead of folding, no creases.
Have a great trip op
