Does anyone know about upper eyelid blepharoplasty?

Does it tighten the skin on the eyelid?

I don't have hooded eyes, but I have these really weird sort of rolls of fat all down my eyelids to the lash line and they look crepey as well, it's disgusting. I'm only 26, used to smoke but not much, and they've been like this for ages now.

When I google 'eyelid tightening', the results suggest an upper lid blepharoplasty will fix it, but when I specifically google 'does an upper bleph tighten loose skin', the results are mixed with some saying yes, some saying no Confused

Has anyone had one? I don't know what to believe and I don't want to book a consultation if I'm going to be wasting their time. I'd imagined maybe a laser or something would be the answer, but I'm clueless. I'd appreciate any suggestions :)

My mum had this procedure recently. She had a local anaesthetic and was awake throughout. The surgeon cut the loose / extra skin on her eyelids off, sewed them back together and she was on her way home, bruised and wearing sunglasses two hours later. Took approx. 8 weeks for her to heal completely. Stitches out after ten days.

Her consultation cost around £80, redeemable against the total cost of the op which was around £2000. She had it done in Harley Street, central London.

I think she looks much better, not younger as such but less tired. I plan on getting the same procedure done next year. We have slightly saggy upper eyelids in our family.

Definitely go for it but you may need the procedure repeated in 8-10 years of your eyelids are a hereditary issue as your skin may naturally fall back over time.

Upper bleph doesn't tighten skin as such, the loose skin is removed and you're left with less skin on your upper eyelids so they are less likely to droop/ over hang.

Wow, thanks @RingPiece That was really detailed.

£2,000 sounds quite cheap, especially for London. I'm in The Midlands and from research it seems the average round here is £3,500 Shock I'm glad I posted now, because I'd never have considered London.

That's my aim really, for them to look less heavy, I suppose. The rest of my skin's pretty decent tbh, but my eyelids look really old, it's a weird contrast. I was just worried because there's no drastic hanging skin as such, it's just loose, so I didn't think I'd be a good candidate.

Thanks again :)

Oooh watching with interesting! I also have fat rolls on my eyelids and hate them. It’s hardly worth putting eyeshadow on Cos you can’t see it hardly! I’m saving for surgery as we speak

Does anyone have any recommendations for anyone who does this in the northwest of England?

managedmis · 23/08/2019 02:36

A poster was on here a while ago who had it done, she looked amazing

I'll see if I can find her thread

DontCallMeShitley · 23/08/2019 03:06

I had it done because my eyelids were droopy, I looked tired all the time and one was worse than the other (hereditary). It returns after a while, but I only had skin removed which left a fine scar in the socket line.

However I have also had a lower blepharoplasty which removed the 'pad' under my eye and also only left a small line in the crease.

Chinese ladies often have procedures to give them almond shaped eyes, would that be any use to you?

DontCallMeShitley · 23/08/2019 03:13

I didn't have any 'contacts' put in, it was done by a top Harley St. surgeon under a local, he stood behind me so I didn't know what he was doing apart from when he checked I was numb. A good surgeon has such a light touch you hardly know he is there. It was done in Harley St.

When I had the lower surgery it was part of another procedure under a general. That was done in a private London hospital.

KatharinaRosalie · 23/08/2019 07:17

Yes if you have loose skin, they will cut it off, that's how it's done.
I had mine done about half a year ago - under local, was in and out in 15 minutes, didn't feel a thing. No pain afterwards either. Let me post some photos of before, just one week after and today. Definitely book a consultation, it's only the surgeon who can tell you what they can or can't do for you.

KatharinaRosalie · 23/08/2019 07:23

So here we have before, week after and now. Recovery was quick, when stitches were out I could already cover the scars with make up.

Ah they show up in the wrong order, the before is of course obvious and blue eyeshadow one is week later.
I also didn't get any vision blocking contacts and had it done abroad for 1100 EUR.

onioncrumble · 23/08/2019 07:31

I have had upper and lower. Massive bruising but no need for time off work.
The upper was amazing in that it didn't change the shape of my eyes at all, I just looked fresher. The lower has changed me, but now I am used to it and don't have girt bags, it looks great. I had Botox about a month after and that really enhances it. Best thing I ever did.
Surgery awake is not for the faint-hearted, you can literally see the cutting. But so nice to have a cup of tea and go home an hour later. I will see if I have any before and after photos on this phone and PM you

I live in east Asia and something like 70% of women here get it done as they have single eyelids and they want double eyelids (the "crease" that westerners typically have).

Personally I think it looks horrible close up. It just looks like a big scar across the eyelid. Even women I know who went to the top surgeons who do this procedure thousands of times, it doesn't look nice.

If you're western/already have a crease, it may look more natural, I don't know. But I'd do a lot of research because it often turns out badly.

onioncrumble · 23/08/2019 07:33

I get very dry eyes now, that's the only down side. I'm still only a few months out and fine with drops.

PennyNotSoWise · 23/08/2019 10:37

managedmis Thank you for posting that, she looks great.

And wow, @KatharinaRosalie, that's a huge difference, your eyes look amazing! The outer corner has really opened up. Lovely eye colour too. Thanks for sharing.

I also have fat rolls on my eyelids and hate them. It’s hardly worth putting eyeshadow on Cos you can’t see it hardly!

That's another thing. I can actually see mine, the whole lid, it's just the 'rolls' make the eyshadow look so shit, it's hard to blend and the skin moves a lot with my brush so I don't bother. I even struggle applying lashes because the lash line is just fucked, tbh, it needs pulling taut. I don't know why it's happened to me at this age, but there you go. (I'm not great at explaining this well either Blush )

@onioncrumble Thanks onion. It's great hearing people stories. I never know what to believe when looking at pics online, because you can't be sure they haven't had anything else done which is making the results look better IYSWIM, and giving false hope of what can be achieved.

So thanks everyone :)

I was considering this for my droopy eye lids - and may still have it done in the future but I'm nervous about having actual surgery.

In the meantime I had botox which has lifted my brow and opened up the eye area. I think it has worked well in terms of making me look more awake and fresher BUT my 'droop' was age related (late 40s) rather than my actual eye shape if that makes sense?

And of course Botox needs topping up so may not work out any cheaper in the long run, plus I'm a bit worried about getting that frozen look if I keep having it regulary. Has certainly done the trick for now though.
