Fake designer- opinions?

I have been looking at a few fake items on eBay, look great, bargain prices so just thinking what are people's views? Would you wear fake?

No. Everyone thinks lots of designer stuff is fake anyway so has limited appeal. It's not the real thing so presumably quality is crap. And that's before get to point that it is theft of creativity.

Profits from counterfeit goods can end up funding terriorists and rogue regimes

TheWildAndTheCurious · 21/08/2019 19:50

Why should someone else get paid for a cheap knockoff of someone else's design? If you can't afford real you shouldn't get it. Everyone will know it's fake and it looks naff.

LesLavandes · 21/08/2019 19:52

Nope

Peony99 · 21/08/2019 19:52

Nope. Deeply tacky.

Iamtooknackeredtorun · 21/08/2019 19:53

Hate fake stuff. If I can’t afford it I don’t buy it.

Lamentations · 21/08/2019 21:22

No. I'd feel shit in it.

Jade218 · 21/08/2019 21:35

Never. If I can't afford the real thing I stick to high street

Rystall · 21/08/2019 21:40

No way. You can tell fakes at 20 paces - crude zips, mismatched leather etc. They look really awful. Why bother?? If you can’t afford the real thing, there are 100s of other, better options.

Petra42 · 21/08/2019 22:16

This is really interesting as with this particular brand, I have a few items of the jewellery which are real but wanted a matching item which is beyond my price range. I can't see any difference in how it looks versus what I already have though!

Nope, I won't wear anything which is obviously designer anyway.

The one exception is the Cartier bracelet which DH bought me as a surprise.

Other than that I must prefer to support small independent sellers (usually via Etsy or local people), the majority my handbags and belts are all handmade by saddlers and the craft work is absolutely stunning, for way less than you'd get a designer fake for Grin

TheMarbleFaun · 21/08/2019 22:24

Petra42 is it Tiffany?
I work in a charity shops & we get a lot of fake stuff & some of it is really good!

This. Fake goods fund a lot of criminal activity and unethical practices.

I've never worn fake goods and never will. For similar - but less criminal - reasons (the unethical practices and lack of sustainability) I never shop at Primark.

I think obvious branded items, especially with big logos, are really tacky. People are buying for the name rather than the quality and/or the design. I much refer to support small independent craftspeople or retailers. The quality is usually better and you're not paying for a load of marketing/branding.

As for jewellery, I buy handmade direct from the maker. So much jewellery these days is made in bulk in factories in China. I don't want to support that.

chasingseagulls · 22/08/2019 07:33

I can't see any difference in how it looks versus what I already have though! How can you possibly say this, you're looking at a photo! It might not be a photo of the fake, but the real thing, to dupe you. Like those stupid chinese dress sites that promise you a designer knock off and you end up with a bin bag. If it's jewellery, the fake will be lighter, and coated which will probably tarnish and wear off in days, or fall apart really easily.

Also ditto the ethical/criminal reasons too.
