Has anyone used Regaine ( Rogaine) for their hair?

What results have you had?
Is it any good?
Would you recommend using it?
Any side effects?

Thank you 😊

Yes, I use it and have very good results with it. Would caveat I have PCOS and it was prescribed by a dermatologist, so the cause of hair loss is known and standard treatment is Minoxidil 5% ( I prefer the foam as the standard one leaves hair greasy).

I have side effects, it can leave me dizzy on occasion and I need to be cautious with standing up too quickly after using it. Occasionally, there's a tingling sensation but nothing truly bothersome.

I'm unfortunately also growing hair in places you don't want it, a known side effect. Having PCOS I'm used to it and equipped to deal with all manner of facial hair but I was rather taken aback to find dark hair growing underneath my eyes Shock not ideal but for me it still beats out the progressive thinning I had.

I was lucky to see hair restored but for most it just stops further hair loss and it's something you have to use for life, once you stop using it you will start losing all new hair growth and whatever else you're destined to lose. It's not some miracle product that will thicken out naturally thin hair, it simply gets hair follicles that have stopped functioning (for various reasons) to work again.

I'd always recommend seeing a dermatologist or trichologist about it first. It's a complete waste of money and time if your hair loss is just temporary due to stress or if it's something more serious like alopecia, but I'd especially caution with use if you have low blood pressure or some other vascular disease/symptoms.

Also, no need to buy the special women's one, the men's formulation is the same and it's unfragranced, the latter is often cheaper in multi packs of 3 or more. The only difference is, Minoxidil is more effective for women and only approved for daily use (using it more does not yield better results) where men need to use it twice daily so directions are different. There's also a different age range, men are only approved to somewhere in their forties and women can go up to 60 or 65 IIRC.

I used it a couple of years ago for Androgenetic Alopecia and tbh, it wasn't great.

Saying that, my hair loss became diffuse, so I had to use more and more which just became impossible. I had regrowth with the Regaine, but nothing worth writing home about. The regrowth was thin and wispy, barely covered thinning spots so just wasn't worth the money I was paying for it anymore. I'm looking in to wigs now, which I'd hoped it would never come to :(

It depends on what you're hoping to achieve OP. Apparently it's great if you just have a widening parting, for example, or temple loss, and especially if it's used early in the hair loss process. You have a better chance of keeping your follicles from shrinking.

Some pics (hope it works, I've never tried before)

This was at the beginning of my hair loss, so it doesn't look too bad, but the shedding really ramped up all over my head so I gave up trying to stop it really.

Just thought it might give you an idea :)

Thank you for your comments and pictures.

My hair has been thinning for about 5years. No bald patches yet, but the front seems quite thin now, to how it used to be. It was very full up until 5years old, now it's quite fine.

@wouldntmindbeingmrsw Mine's been thinning for 5 years too! Started when I was 21, it's so thin now the comb can barely pick any hair up :(

If you've excluded any medical reasons for the thinning, like thyroid or iron problems, then honestly it can't hurt to give the Regaine a try, especially if it's a particular area like the front you're trying to help.

Are you aware that when you start using it, it can cause a massive shed of all the hair you'd lose naturally anyway? Just a warning in case you don't, it can be quite alarming.

I hope you find something that works for you. I feel like medical professionals are very dismissive of hair loss and don't take in to account how badly it can affect self esteem, especially in women.

Good luck. :)

Thank you @PennyNotSoWise sorry to hear about your hair loss and at such a young age. I really feel for you. Hair loss can really effect your confidence and self esteem, it's a real shame it's not take very seriously. People don't understand unless it happens to them. I think about mine all the time. Which probably doesn't help either 🙄
