Red shiny nose - what can I do to stop looking like Rudolph??

As above!
My skin is generally ok - fair, if I get spots it’s one big horrible one that goes after a few days. Have moles and broken red vein type marks too.
My nose is just red and shiny with random spots no matter what I try. I have a fairly good skin routine and avoid the sun. I don’t drink much at all or eat a lot of spicy food (which apparently can cause it according to google)
I don’t think it’s rosacea but could be wrong as it is only my nose than anywhere else :(

It does sound like rosacea - mine is mostly on my nose which is always red with little painful spots.

How is your moisture barrier? I changed to cleansing with nivea and a hot cloth, moisturising with the same and then a layer of diprobase on the top. Then nivea soft in the morning.

If it is rosacea you'll want to remove all harsh chemicals. Cold cream is really good for restoring moisture which is important as a damaged skin barrier makes rosacea worse.

What do you mean by a moisture barrier? I cleanse with a flannel and cleanser then use a glycolic toner, then a serum and a moisturiser. And an spf in the day. Does that sound right? My general skin condition has improved since doing all the above but not my nose :(

Rosacea can be caused/aggravated by a damaged moisture barrier, which means that your skin is dehydrated and not protected from the elements or chemicals you're putting on your face.

Yours might be okay but I know that if you suspect rosacea you should maybe rethink the glycolic stuff as that won't help it (in my experience) as acid is the last thing you should put on rosacea skin.

Cold cream helped me it might be worth a try :)

I was wondering about the glycolic actually as I’d read it aggravates it.
What Nivea do you use as a cleanser/moisturiser?

I use the nivea creme in the blue tin (huge tin for £4.50 on amazon prime). I put a thick layer on then scrub off with a hot cloth. I usually do this twice and it takes off all makeup and leaves my face clean. Then I put a layer on, leave it to soak in and follow it with a layer of diprobase eczema cream.

I use the nivea soft (white tub) in the morning before makeup.

I definitely have rosacea and I found that switching to a very basic routine (toners, serums etc aren't really necessary and can make rosacea worse) really helped me and my skin is very healthy with reduced redness.

Obviously only a dermatologist can tell you what's going on but it might be worth a go to simplify things for a while and make sure your skin is well hydrated.

Thank you - it cant hurt to try and it’s definitely getting more prominent than better. Has yours gone completely or does it still flare up?

I had it all over my face. If I keep up my routine it pretty much stays away - I still get some sore little spots on my nose but not as bad. If I let it slide the dryness comes back and the redness reappears. Some people with rosacea will need medicated cream, I find they just dry my skin out.

twolittleboysonetiredmum · 20/08/2019 19:07

That’s hopeful! Do you find your face is greasy? My nose is very greasy and my only worry with what you do is that it will make that worse?

No, my skin is very dry. I know that if you have oily skin you should still moisturise. Could you be dehydrating the skin with the glycolic and it's making your skin over produce oil?

I don't know your skin and I'm not an expert so just a thought!
