Need hair advice before I end up looking ridiculous

I am very dark haired, it is thick wavy I have a ‘lob’ hairstyle

I have been dying my hair dark brown to cover grey for a long time but gave up about 4-5 months ago as became pointless, doesn’t last 2 weeks out of a box

My hair is falling out a lot too, this is hormonal. Otherwise it’s in ok condition. I rarely blow dry or straighten it

I am going really grey now from the roots, on top and underneath. People actually comment on it Angry so I spray it with that L’Oréal cover up spray and rarely wear it down

My hairdresser, who I do trust has booked me in for a full head of caramel highlights. We decided I needed to break up the block of my hair colour to distract from grey and also if it’s thinning out

I agree but I am worried that this will turn me entirely lighter all over. Is this what full head means? Or is this that sections will be dark and some light?

Excuse my stupidness, I’ve never ever had anything like this done before! Google mainly shows me balayage, which is no good for root coverage

A lighter hair colour will probably brighten your features as a bonus. I say go for it so long as your colourist knows what they're doing.

Ex-hairdresser here!

Full head means the highlights are all over your head rather than just your T-section (parting and hairline). It's pretty normal to do this when having highlights for the first time.

It'll have the effect of lifting the overall colour of your hair but in a more natural way than if you just dyed it all over one colour like from a box.

You should spend some time online looking at different pictures and take your hairdresser a mood board of what you'd like it to look like so they know what you're after. This is so much easier than you and your hairdresser speaking at crossed purposes.

Ok thanks!
Yes I have some photos but I am unsure if they will match what she is thinking Hmm

I don’t want to go completely blonde all over just break up my own colour/give dimension and cover some grey, then even if grey comes through it’s not as obvious. I also don’t want thick stripes!
