I haven’t used box hair dye since I was in my teens but I have a new born and need to dye my roots/hair. Does anyone have any advice please?

Before you apply to your hair make sure you do a patch test 24 hours before to make sure you are not allergic.

I always use Nice and Easy.

I use Castings, which I find really good.

In my 60s now and used Nice and Easy Baby Blonde since I was a teenager. Stopped a few years ago. My hair is grey now and the other day I bought the Mellor and Russel Baby Blonde one from B and M. It’s less than £2. It worked fine - happy with the results!

John frieda foam is so easy to use and hair feels in good condition afterwards

Not Nutrisse - whenever I use it I find it fades really quickly, especially on my greys.

Go for semi permanent.

Thanks. I will take a look at the suggestions.

Castings is the best I find. I use it often and have used every other hair colour in the land

Junoon · 23/08/2019 21:23

What colour is your hair and how old are you?

I’m brunette and used Castings Darkest Brown successfully all through my 20s and 30s (started going grey early!).

In my 40s I find it too harsh and drying, but Nutrisse Dark Golden Brown is much better. Gentler on my hair, lasts longer, blends in with the rest of my hair if I only do my roots.

Make sure you rub vaseline or a thick, oily cream, around your hairline and over your ears before you dye your hair...it'll prevent staining your skin.

Wear an old T-shirt.

Read the instructions twice!

Good luck. Smile

I used John Frieda foam tonight as I am getting sick at paying £££ to have my hair coloured in salon. It was really easy to use, smells lovely and has covered my roots, not at all patchy.

DippyAvocado · 23/08/2019 21:40

I use nice n easy too. I only dye the whole lot 2-3 time a year. Super drug do some really good root touch-up packs that I use in between.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 23/08/2019 23:56

Make sure you get a 'multi-tonal' one or your hair will be one block of colour.

Go for a lighter colour than you think you want/need. They always turn out darker than the photo on the box. X
