If you were a size 12 and nearly 6ft 2, what stjle would you cultivate....?

I enjoy clothes. I have some really great items.

I just don't feel I have ever cultivated a style for myself. I am very drawn to styles that suit petite women (i.e. the images in the Margaret Powell and Toast post) and on pinterest I love the admittedly cliche "french girl chic" images or the styles on tiny, dark haired women with gorgeous pixie crops.

Only problem...I'm not petite, I am very fair skinned and freckly with dark blonde hair, nearly 6 ft 2. I am not as toned as I'd like but reasonable figure....size 12. In my mid thirties. Had kids. A pixie crop (I think) would do me no favours and I wear my hair in a simple cut, varying between shoulder length and long.

I shop at Long Tall Sally, Next Tall and occasionally ASOS Tall. The odd piece from John Lewis (Ted Baker/Hush). But really, I do need those 'tall' brands because of the lengths and proportions. I am really, truly TALL.

Based on this, what kind of looks should I be leaning towards? I need some guidance!

Thanks so much

I would wear Me+Em and Allbirds Smile

DearDeirdre · 19/08/2019 09:17

I'd go for dramatic, like Erin O Connor. Not so much the out-there stuff, but she really rocks tailoring -Link to blog about her style

HMArsey · 19/08/2019 09:25

I love John Lewis Kin but don’t wear it because I am short and fat. It may work for you, OP!

QueenJulian · 19/08/2019 09:36

Have you ever looked at the Kibbe body type analysis? It suggests styles for each body type but it’s a bit more in depth than the usual pear, inverted triangle etc. I think there are 13 types. Ally Art on YouTube has some good videos including the initial quiz with lots of images.

Erm, Victoria’s Secret all day every day, because you’re obviously an Amazonian goddess 😂

mnahmnah · 19/08/2019 09:43

Gwendoline Christie always looks amazing

A couple of slimline men’s jackets, carefully chosen and worn with more feminine tops might be worth a try. I’m a sucker for a velvet blazer myself and at the moment would love a good linen jacket, but there aren’t any for women and at 5’4” raiding the men’s section is out of the question. Erin O’Connor swears by M&S menswear - whether you can wear men’s shirts depends on breast size of course but their lambswool jumpers are excellent.

Well, if you like the cliche French Girl style than go for it.
If you wanted some more premium clothes, then JCrew has a tall section online with tons of styles.
You might also find some some brands do make clothes longer for larger sizes - not sure about 12 but 14 is definitely long - longer than tall Next or ASOS stuff but not quite as long as LTS. The brands in question are the H&M group (Other stories and Cos).

6ft 2, size 12. Lucky you.
You could channel Elle Mc Phearson.

FlorenceLyons · 21/08/2019 13:19

Scandi chic. If anyone knows how to design clothes for tall, blonde women, it's the Scandinavians Grin

JoJoSM2 · 21/08/2019 13:56

Lucky you

Tbh, it’s pretty sucky trying to find clothes that are long enough... I’m 2 inches shorter and mega frustrating already...

walkintheparc · 21/08/2019 13:58

Phoebe Waller Bridge is fairly tall and always looks very chic

MrsJackman1 · 21/08/2019 14:34

You could absolutely channel Katherine Hepburn. All wide legged trousers and fitted tops - lovely!

thedevilinablackdress · 21/08/2019 14:35

I think Toast suits tall people.
Tilda Swinton is fairly tall and always looks amazing IMO

matahairyy · 21/08/2019 14:38

Sporty athletic.

I knew the replies would say Scandinavian architect. Always do.

Carouselfish · 21/08/2019 14:45

Been 6' and size 12 most of my life, am now a size 16!!! And while I've never particularly stuck to one style I find three quarter length sleeves look great and cigarette cut trousers, cropped or not. Shift dresses too. But if I had my old figure back at this age (nearing 40) I'd be more into nice tailored blazers and cropped trousers, silk tops, long hair in messy pony or bun. Maybe a tea dress or two.

Carouselfish · 21/08/2019 14:52

Also find Gwendolyn Christie a non-appealing example of a tall woman, by her body type I mean. Quite Miranda-y. Prefer the Jordan Baker actress in Gatsby.

BogglesGoggles · 21/08/2019 14:56

I am tall - not as tall as you though! And probably have a similar firgure to you (10 but shorter so proportions must be similar). I wear a cross between toast and Victorian lady if that makes sense. Lots of linen, maxi dresses, lace etc. I find that being tall makes most things look stylish.

Lost for words Carouselfish
Heaven forbid that women don't conform to a clichéd feminine aesthetic!
