Roaccutane - strange rash

LemonLaVidaLoca · 18/08/2019 17:32

I've on my second month of Roaccutane and have recently been upped to 60mg. I've developed a strange rash on my hands/forearms. It's not blistering or sore but I'm a bit worried.

Anyone had this? I'm reluctant to stop treatment as I'm desperate for my acne to clear Sad

I would phone GPs it is not a drug to be taken lightly.

Yeahsurewhatever · 18/08/2019 17:34

Had it
Painful
Moisturise, it'll go away
But don't use cream on any areas the tablets are targeting

It's similar to eczema

Good luck!

Yeahsurewhatever · 18/08/2019 17:35

Oh it will bleed / become breaks in the skin if you leave it too, so don't do that

Yeahsurewhatever · 18/08/2019 17:38

Call a Dr if you like

But you're taking a drug with side effects
The way to stop the side effects are stop taking the drug/take less of the drug

A Dr isn't going to say anything else

If you can't deal with the rash.
Or you can't breath, or you feel you're in danger in anyway, call a Dr obviously. Only you know how you feel

But in this case, when you are told there will be side effects, and it's going to dry out your skin etc. A rash isn't surprising and doesn't warrant a drs trip imo.

@Yeahsurewhatever I realise there's side effects, I've had plenty, that's not the issue. My dermatologist didn't mention anything about a rash but when I've read the leaflet it says to immediately stop treatment and contact my GP. If others have had it and it's completely normal then I don't need to ring the Dr

@Yeahsurewhatever sorry clicked post by mistake.

I'm using a good, intensive cream - what one did you use?

Read the leaflet.

I had this too! and on the bottom of my back. It never worsened and went away in time.

championquartz · 18/08/2019 22:58

You need to contact your GP or dermatologist and let them decide if it’s a drug rash or not.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/08/2019 10:15

I had this too, I put Sainsburys cheap body lotion on and it went away.

bonzo77 · 19/08/2019 10:19

Speak to your doctor. It might be worth going back to the lower dose. I had quite bad psychiatric side effects at a higher dose of roaccutane, but they resolved at the lower dose. And my acne went away and stayed away. 20 years since I started treatment.

TheWashingMachine · 19/08/2019 10:26

It is probably like eczema as your skin 8s super dry, I had it too on Roaccutane.

SistersOfMerci · 19/08/2019 11:32

Have you not got a derm nurse you can call for advice? I did when I was on it and could email her too.

teta · 19/08/2019 12:55

Don't ignore it as some have suggested, as it could be an allergy rash. Speak to someone in the dermatologists team, not a gp.

Troton · 19/08/2019 20:36

I had this too. It went away after a few days although came back every now and then. I was only on 20mg though. 60 is very high!! Recent evidence shows lower doses are almost equally as effective for acne but with fewer side effects. May be worth asking about dropping down

LemonLaVidaLoca · 20/08/2019 16:33

I've only just come back to this thread, I've been applying an intensive moisturiser three times a day and it's slowly going!
