Best body lotion for 50+ yr old dry skin

My legs particularly are very dry and look so old Sad
I don’t have shed loads to spend so I’ve been using Palmer’s Cocoa butter with bit E.
Do I need to go up a price level to get something better maybe?
Any recommendations gratefully received.
TIA

I really like Nivea Soft. Feels light, absorbs quickly, and moisturizes quite well. Reasonably priced. I prefer it over more expensive creams that frankly don't work any better.

Allthebubbles · 18/08/2019 08:52

The CCS cracked heel/ foot cream is amazing on dry legs. I think it has urea in. They do a very high percentage one and a less intense one which might be better for legs.
Also the blue Aveeno moisturiser is good.

Swisskit · 18/08/2019 08:59

Both Nivea in the white bottle and in the dark blue tub are good. Also Astral. I'm also over 50 and find daily use of Nivea does the trick.

Fozzleyplum · 18/08/2019 09:02

I use Aveeno as the moisturising effect is long-lasting and it isn't greasy. If I needed something greasier, I'd use blue tub Nivea or Nivea soft, both of which I use on my face.

sandgrown · 18/08/2019 09:02

You could try an emollient cream like Cetreben .It's about £10 for a large tub but lasts for ages and is very effective.

TanteRose · 18/08/2019 09:04

Yep another vote for Nivea Soft

Daffodil2018 · 18/08/2019 09:04

Don't forget to exfoliate too. I find the best way is using those gloves you can buy in Superdrug with a creamy body wash or shower oil.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 18/08/2019 09:13

Go cheaper-Astral. I have very dry legs-my shins crack. Three days of it and cracked skin vanished and my skin feels lovely and soft. Itis thick and doesn't feel luxurious going on, but you notice after you sbower it off.

mckenzie · 18/08/2019 09:27

Thank you all for the replies.
I’m hanging my head in shame as I know that I should exfoliate but I haven’t recently. I shall do that tonight.

I’ve made of note of all the recommendations and shall shop tomorrow.

Thanks again everyone

Yes to exfoliate !

The skin on the shins is quite fragile and if your legs are anything like mine (I'm 53) a few veins and freckles /age spots in the mix.

I love BodyShop Pink Grapefruit scrub in the shower (if it's on offer)
Or Korean Italian Cloths used after a bath. They're the most efficient and cost effective . Soak 30 minutes in plain hot water then buff the dead skin all over . You'll be horrified and amazed in equal measure Grin

Oil and sugar or salt works well too.

HepburnKNotA · 18/08/2019 09:47

I know they’re not the greasiest or the thickest but I’ve had great results with Body Shop body yogurts (love the grapefruit)

I think the reason is that because they’re NOT that thick or greasy I actually find them a treat to use, nice and cooling and I can get dressed without feeling sticky, therefore I use them every day now as it’s not a time consuming faff.

Never got on with the Body Shop body butters for example.

My shins were in a bad way but a quick scrub each day in shower with exfoliating glove and a big blob of body yogurt and they’re so so so much better now

mckenzie · 18/08/2019 12:56

thanks for the extra posts. I'm inspired to take more care of my skin now, especially my legs as I want to keep them out for as long as possible Grin

Oil. Oil. Oil.

You want the nuxe oil but the riche one

StCharlotte · 18/08/2019 14:10

Similar age and problem. I use the E45 daily lotion or Sanctuary "souffle".

TodoDoingDone · 18/08/2019 14:59

When my skin gets dry, I do a triple moisture routine. Shower (with soap for sensitive skin), then baby oil on wet skin, dry myself, then moisturising cream. And cover myself in cream again before bedtime. It's time consuming, but it stops the itching, and loos better.

matahairyy · 18/08/2019 15:24

Oil absorbs so fast. And works better

Mileysmiley · 18/08/2019 15:26

Coconut oil is good for older skin ... I used it when I was pregnant because I heard the women in Hawaii used it and didn't get any stretch marks which I didn't and I still use it now.

mckenzie · 18/08/2019 16:10

Thanks for the extra posts.
I’m going to use the Nivea cream when I get out of the shower (after exfoliating) and oil before bed time.
Or should I reverse that?

E45 rich creme is very good. Definitely noticed a vast improvement after using this.

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 19/08/2019 14:54

E45 cream sorted out my scarlet legs.

florriepeck · 19/08/2019 20:37

Doublebase gel ( over the counter at pharmacy) was rated highly by a Sunday Times Style beauty writer.

mckenzie · 19/08/2019 20:56

thanks for the extra posts and suggestions

The Aveeno spray oil is very good. I use it when my skin is still damp post-shower then potter along and switch on hair straighteners, sort out clothes for the day. By the time that's done everything is absorbed. It's quite portable too so you could give yourself a top up easily in the loos at work. Leaves a slight glow/shine to the skin.
The Ordinary hyaluric acid serum is fantastic for the neck and decolletage although it's meant for the face obv. On another recent thread someone said 'anything that goes on my face also goes on my neck and collarbone area' and I can see the sense in this.

Ohyesiam · 19/08/2019 21:45

The very best thing that I have found for dry legs is coconut oil. It totally got rid of the scaly crocodile skin on my shins. Big jar of it from Tesco for£5
