Can anyone recommend a good, not too expensive, skin care regime for eczema and sensitive skin?

bar soap & flannel for washing/taking off make up

layering at night: a moisturiser (aveeno oats) followed by a rich cream (weleda skin food)

mornings just flannel wash with warm water and moisturiser. make up if you must, but keep it simple.

Check out avene products (and no, I don't mean aveeno!)

It's sounds a touch hippyish going on about the special thermal waters but they've really worked for me. The soap free facial wash, serum, light moisturiser and cicalfate are particularly good. Boots and Lloyds chemist have decent offers pretty regularly too

Dermol! Can be used as a hot cloth cleanser for taking off make up and as a moisturiser. It's antimicrobial so avoids any secondary infection, sinks in well, doesn't smell at all and is a general great all-rounder. Sorted out my facial eczema (and the awful steroid rash I got from trying to treat with hydrocortisone) within two weeks. In the pharmacy book it says it was designed with good patient compliance in mind so all the annoying bits you get with medicated products have been edited out and it just works well. £11 for a huge bottle.

Jojoba oil to take off make up with a warm flannel. I usually apply twice, and that's all I need - keeps eczema breakouts under control (although not completely gone), oil cleansing cleans the skin enough, and I have way fewer spots now too. I think dry skin is what blocks my pores, so the oil reduces dryness therefore reduces blockage - easiest and cheapest routine I've ever had! £20 for a bottle from Holland and Barrett that's lasted me six months.

God not bar soap! Coconut oil or similar for make up removal. I’ve found eucerin and weleda sensitive ranges good.

Kingtiger101 · 16/08/2019 19:52

I use e45 wash cream to cleanse. Rub onto dry skin and then I use a warm, wet muslin to wash it off. Splash cold water to tone. Then I moisturise with Aveeno cream.

I used to get pretty bad eczema on my face and this has helped a lot.

Epaderm emollient and flannel to take make up off. Epaderm cream for moisturizing. That worked on one child but not the other! Everyone is different.

orangeshoebox · 16/08/2019 20:19

bar soap (proper marseille oil soap) has made my skin so much better.

citygirl1961 · 16/08/2019 20:31

Thanks for your replies, Kingtiger, I used to use E45 wash cream on my hands and body at one time, I've noticed now its changed and just says to use on hands and body and doesn't mention anything about your face. Have you noticed this? Do you find it takes make up off OK?

Has anyone used Liz Earle cleanse and polish as that's supposed to be good for eczema.

Eucerin has worked wonders for my face. I wash with the micellar water, then use the 5% urea cream in the day and 10% at night. There's a more concentrated cream in a tube for actual eczema patches, but I could stop using that after about a month. Honestly, it changed my life.

moreismore · 16/08/2019 21:06

The Liz Earle didn’t irritate (despite being very perfumed) but it didn’t make much difference either.

bookishtartlet · 16/08/2019 21:12

I have taken it right back to basics and have the best skin of my life. I have awful, awful eczema Every where. I use cerave cleanser and moisturiser for very dry skin, using a warm wet Muslin to apply and wash off. I put the first layer of moisturiser when face is still damp, then another 10 mins later. I use drops of youth serum and sheet masks too. Definitely working out for me.

oreosoreosoreos · 16/08/2019 21:13

I really rate Moo Goo products, they really helped when I was having bad flare ups (the scalp cream in particular is excellent, and really gentle so you can use it around the eye area).

I've recently simplified my regimen to try and get my skin back on track as the perimenopause was wreaking havoc on it- coconut oil on my face at night (generous amount rubbed all over, then taken off with a hot flannel), then in the morning I wipe over with diluted apple cider vinegar and use just a smidge of the coconut oil as a moisturiser.

I also use Neals Yard honey and orange scrub once a week - it's not too scratchy and seems to moisturise at the same time.

Kingtiger101 · 17/08/2019 06:53

I hadn’t noticed the change but now you say it I think all the time I’ve used it (which is almost 10 years!) I think it’s said for hands and body. But anyway it’s been fine on my face. It takes make up off (although you need the muslin as well) but not so great with eye make up.

I used to use Liz Earle but it wasn’t right for my skin in the end. But it’s the Liz Earle muslins I use to remove the E45!
