If you are basically always cold in winter can you tell me what coats you have that actually keep you properly warm?
My trusty old coat is getting past its use buy date.

I have a mountain warehouse down filled jacket, it's not long, hip/arse level, but it is as toasty AF and was from the sale last year so a huge bargain.

Also just bought one of their packaway ones too but haven't yet worn that, again they have a sale on.

Herocomplex · 16/08/2019 20:46

I agree with pp’s, layer a uniqlo thin padded jacket with a wool/cashmere winter coat.

PigeonofDoom · 16/08/2019 20:47

Danefae was recommended to me on here and it has been the best coat I’ve ever had. Their winter coats are light, warm, fairly waterproof (to 5mm) and Aline (for those of us wide of hip Grin). Plus, they always have winter coats in their outlet.

PigeonofDoom · 16/08/2019 20:48

I used to love my wool coat when I lived down south but it doesn’t cut it in a northern winter Sad

Stravapalava · 16/08/2019 20:50

I have an older model of this :

www.tog24.com/collections/womens-parka-jackets/products/radial-womens-waterproof-parka-black

It's amazing, lasted me 3 winters so far. It keeps me warm without being sweaty or stifling. Best buy ever.

31RueCambon · 16/08/2019 21:05

@NachosTrafficantes
Ill have to go that. Did you buy a smart coat a size up and the down coat a bit tight?

mistermagpie · 16/08/2019 21:20

Depends on your style and budget but I have this. It's silly money and I waited literally years to get one but it's the warmest coat ever. I'm always freezing and even I'm warm in this, plus it looks smart enough for work and is properly waterproof.

mistermagpie · 16/08/2019 21:21

Can't make the link work but it's an arcteryx patera parka.

stucknoue · 16/08/2019 21:29

I have a jacket from mountain warehouse that's rated -50. It's too warm really, super rainproof too

NoTheresa · 16/08/2019 21:30

ElizabethinherGermanGarden

Watch out for the smell from some tweed, though - apparently urine is used as a mordant to set the dye and I found that when my tweed coat got damp and then began to steam (eg when coming in after being out in the rain) it gave off a strong smell of wee. Hopefully other people have been luckier and have non-pissy coats but mine was vile. So expensive, too!

What a silly idea. That sort of thing does not happen in the 21st Century. 🤣

OhTheRoses · 16/08/2019 21:35

I have a down coat by Basler which is a dream. DH swears by his Loden. My grandmother swore by mink but alas not nowadays.

BlingLoving · 16/08/2019 21:38

I got a trespass coat on the sale for £90. It has changed my life. I absolutely love it and have never been so warm in winter.

thenightsky · 16/08/2019 21:38

Seasalt Janelle and a mountain warehouse 2 in 1 thingy.

CountFosco · 16/08/2019 21:41

Bet urea is still used, I work in pharma and we use loads of urea when we make drugs. Amazing stuff, really good for your skin as well. Of course, it wouldn't smell.

Lelivre · 16/08/2019 21:47

I have a Didrikson and a Columbia parka and prefer the latter. I didn’t find my didrikson warm enough. I think it’s a Taylor.

CountFosco · 16/08/2019 21:51

As far as coats go my warmest ever coat is a boiled 100% wool coat from Boden bought about 10 years ago, it is slightly felted and is so warm. I bought a tweed coat from them last year and it is noticeably cooler, I'm going to get a long cardigan to wear underneath. Can't quite fave Uniqlo down coat (which would be the other option).

NachosTrafficantes · 16/08/2019 22:03

@31rueCambon. Normal sized but not v v fitted coat and mortally fitted uniglo. They are v lightweight and effective. Doesn’t work great in the rain but v good on dry cold days when I cam look smart!

31RueCambon · 16/08/2019 22:21

Sorry @nachostrafficantes, I need this spelled out, so a normal but not fitted smart overcoat and a fitted lightweight down coat.
I will obviously get a very lightweight thin down coat to wear under the wool coat.

I'm going to look at uniqlo now. I always see lovely smart coats but I just know I'd never wear them. I'm always freezing.

small2018 · 16/08/2019 22:30

You need one of these!!

Can we talk winter coats for people who are always cold?
MadisonMontgomery · 16/08/2019 22:33

I know it’s controversial but I looooove my Canada Goose jacket.

TitchyP · 16/08/2019 22:35

Impossible to cold in a proper sheepskin coat but again, it's controversial.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 16/08/2019 22:42

I have two very warm coats, one is from Jigsaw and is a wool and cashmere blend bought from TK Maxx for very little in the hottest part of last summer (was soo toasty and smart in it last winter!) and the other is surprisingly from Uniqlo's light down range. Didn't hold out much hope for this, just wanted a padded coat that could pack up small, but it is surprisingly toast. Get one that covers the bum.

Being cold is horrible. I'm glad DC2 is going into year 2 and so in the 'big' playground for pick up, last winter I had to stand at the reception and year 1 playground for her to come out and the way the wind cut through that was sooo cold!

I am also of the opinion being warm has more to do with your footwear than what you wear on your upper half. Get boots with thick soles (insulated) that are slightly too big so you can wear wool thermal socks inside easily. This makes more of a difference than coat.

Fstar · 17/08/2019 00:26

If i had the money id buy canada goose

BubblesBuddy · 17/08/2019 00:49

Are they cheaper in Canada? Going next month!

My Harris Tweed coat is wonderful and non smelly. Tweed can have a particular smell of it gets really wet but nothing awful.

Just seen the reversible sheepskin in Massimo Dutti. I’d but one!

BigButtons · 17/08/2019 08:33

Oh- I might get a Uniqlo down jacket to wear under my Didrikson's . Also something I can wear in the house during winter for an extra layer.
I would need it to be extra tight so maybe an extra small?
