Why do I get spotty after a few days in the sun?

Have just returned from our holiday. Why does my skin have to break out in pimples after just a few days in the sun? I'm careful with the suncream I use & used a different one this year to last, but still get spots.

What am I doing wrong? So frustrating to come home feeling all healthy and refreshed with a light tan but loads of pimples.

This happens to me after sunscreen, or any skin product, containing silicone. Its usually listed as dimethicone.

I get them on my face, so annoying! Combined with the hideous reaction I get to mozzie bites, I come home from holidays looking horrendous!

Try a natural barrier based sun block. I can't use the majority of sun creams because i get a dreadful itchy rash.

Look up PIL to see if that rings a bell.

I get this. I think it’s because my skin thickens up and gets more oily in the heat and sub, and then pores get blocked more easily. Exfoliating more helps.

What sunscreen do you use? I used to think I couldn't use any facial sunscreen at all as I used to break out hideously at the slightest touch of sunscreen, then discovered Japanese & French skincare. I now use this almost every day, & this if I'm going to be outside all day, e.g on holiday, at the beach or similar as it's more sweatproof. Both fab.

Hmm, are they true pimples? I get PLE which is atype sorry to UV, always comes on early season after first exposure and on holiday when exposed to more UV all of a sudden.

Steroid creams and anti histamines as will as taking it slowly all work for me

Thanks! I'll check the ingredients. I've used La Roche Posay in the past & tried Altruist this time (really rate this one for the body btw. No one in the family was sensitive). Yes, they do seem to be true spots but I will google pil.

Is silica the same as silicone? It's listed in the la Roche posay suncream. I did use a bit this year. Maybe it was that?

Definitely not pil or ole.

Thank you all! Too late for this year, but I'll look out next year.

I used to get this, so now I use an spf 30 tanning oil on my face instead of a sunscreen. Doesn't block my pores like sun cream does.

It’ll probably be your sun cream, make sure you wash your face thoroughly with a foamy cleanser at the end of the day. Maybe even double cleanse.
It could be silicone in your spf in which case you need a cleanser with sulfates in (something like sls) as silicone is not water soluble so won’t wash off your skin properly. Hopefully it’s that easy anyway!!

I wouldn’t use a cleanser or face wash with sulfates in every day, it’s too harsh, but it will get the sun cream off your face. Shower gel will also work, but obviously that’s quite harsh too.
