Lone (reluctantly grey) wolf cries 'Help!'

Am I the only person the planet who had transitioned to grey and DOES not like it?

I am very dark-brown haired, naturally, and always kept it long. I got tired of managing roots and the condition of my hair was suffering.

March 2018 I ditched the dye and haven't touched it since.

My hair is very white at the front but a bit darker grey everywhere else.

Yesterday I had it restyled but it was cut 3 inches shorter than I asked. It's ok and it will grown do not that upset.

I think the colour of my hair is ok but it do NOT think it suits me. If I had cool skin tones and blue eyes it would suit me but I am warm/olive skin with black brows. I don't feel nice and I feel even slightly masculine. I think it makes me look a bit 'harsh'. I really can't continue with this as I hate looking in the mirror!

But what can I do? I don't want to go back to what I was doing before but please can anyone suggest alternatives which mean that I am not grey but I only have to have the roots done every three months or so?

Or is semi-permanent the answer?

Love to hear from you!

Lowlights. A mix of honey and a warmer brown scattered here and there. Get them to show you the colour chart first and agree to the shades they suggest. Go somewhere good and expect to pay, but it's worth it.

I'm growing out mine and use a coloured shampoo on it, (I was blonde) it's silver shampoo so gives me a more ash blond. It's the milkshake silver shampoo and conditioner

Jingling I could kiss your hand! And 'thank you' for not trying to talk me into staying grey as everyone else seems to.

Whoknew thank you I have also wondered whether there is something like this out there but searching for it online is like a needle in haystack and you get lost. I will have a look at it.

Henna.

I don’t like the look of my very dark, fading from the front and only half grey natural hair. And I felt that home hair dyes were probably slowly poisoning me - as well as seeming very harsh on my hair.

But, following some MN conversations, I’ve turned to ‘organic’ henna and it’s great. Time consuming but leaves hair in great condition.

Going grey isn’t compulsory. I’m not colouring my hair to look ‘younger’ - but right now the grey doesn’t suit my face.

WhoKnew Thank you for the link. After reading the reviews I'm not sure it's for me. Some people have said it gives their grey a purple tinge which I would hate. I think this might be the case on grey hair that was naturally dark but maybe doesn't happen if your natural colour was blonde or very light in the first place.

Quatermiss

What colour is your hair now you use henna?

My original hair colour was a sort of gentle black - the henna maintains pretty much the same colour - but it’s not block-y at all.

I’m using the Very Dark Brown from It’s Pure Herbal Hair Colour - which is recommended for grey hair.

QuaterMiss How often do you do root touch-up?
