Help with Eye Makeup Remover

Lavendersquare · 11/08/2019 23:58

I don't wear particularly heavy make up, I usually wear eyeshadow, mascara and eyeliner most days. I always remove my make up but lately I'm finding it harder to remove all my eye make up, and even when I think I've removed it all I wake up with traces of yesterday's eye make up which is gross.

I currently use micellar gel (didn't get on with the water) and for the sake of the planet would prefer to not use wipes. I'm desperate to find a really good solution so please hit me with your top tips and best products.
Tia

Buy a jar of coconut oil. It will last you for months.

florriepeck · 12/08/2019 12:33

Nivea Double Effect eye make up remover has good reviews.
I use this for fairly heavy eye make up, and it doesn't leave traces behind.
A (probably obvious) tip that I read recently is to not expect any remover to work immediately on contact: hold the pad to which you've applied the remover on the area for a few moments, to let the product start working.

VenusTiger · 12/08/2019 12:54

Just try a different brand of micellar water - I’ve tried 4 brands and am finally happy with it - I wear same eye make up as you and I hate how some make up removers make my skin tight and dry - also the removers that leave oil around your eyes.

VenusTiger · 12/08/2019 12:55

Plus what @florriepeck says about soaking (holding on your eye) like you do when you remove nail polish

MrsW85 · 12/08/2019 12:58

Soap and glory peaches and cream cleansing milk. 2 pumps and massage into face then wipe with a flannel and repeat. Always double cleanse. It's really gentle on my eyes and takes off all my make up. Gently rub your lashes between your fingers and that helps to melt it all away

Char20499 · 12/08/2019 12:58

I agree with the coconut oil you just rub it in really well until all the makeup is basically round your face lol then wipe it off with cotton pads and it makes your skin feel amazing after too

JaneR0chester · 12/08/2019 13:01

Lancôme bi facil eye make up remover. I've tried other brands which were ok (currently using a Sephora one) but this is the best - most gentle and effective.

I hold the cotton pad on my lashes for a while as PP suggested, also I use a cotton bud soaked in the remover to remove my eyeliner and get into the lash roots.

I use this:

Cheap, lasts for ages and is gentle and really effective. No harsh rubbing needed.

Luckingfovely · 12/08/2019 13:06

This cleansing oil is great - takes everything off and leaves your skin feeling lovely:

Somuchroom · 12/08/2019 13:59

I go back to Vaseline every time. Rub into eye until I look like a panda, wipe off with cotton pad. Can’t find anything else that works as well.

dontgobaconmyheart · 12/08/2019 14:05

Anything oil based (balm, dual phase eye makeup remover etc) or just an oil basically will do the job OP! Any of the dual phase eye make up removers are just an oil in a liquid anyway.
I use whatever cleansing oil I have on the go with cotton reusable cleansing pads or a flannel. I just buy a load of them and wash them and reuse, then cleanse again with whatever you usually use after the oil to remove residue.

ZaraW · 12/08/2019 15:23

I use coconut oil too and a wash cloth which is more environmentally friendly than using pads.

LaMarschallin · 12/08/2019 15:33

I use L'Oreal Paris Double Extension Beauty Tube Black mascara which comes off easily with warm water - I always used to find that most of the hard rubbing (and skin pulling) during eye makeup removal was due to sufficiently clearing off mascara.
Then I use Simple eye makeup remover. Find it better than others I've tried, including Chanel and Lancome which get good reviews.
Never liked the feel of oily removers and all the cream ones I've tried make my eyes sting.

By coconut oil, do PPs (sorry - being too idle to check back) mean the stuff that comes in tins and can be used for vegan baking?

It's just I occasionally use it for cakes for my vegan daughter but to find another use for it would be great Smile
And maybe it would be an oil I could tolerate.

SummerintoAutumn · 12/08/2019 15:47

This... I think the tins would be coconut milk!

SummerintoAutumn

That's the stuff I mean (definitely not coconut milk).
I had it in a tin with a ring-pull top and then a plastic reusable lid (bit like the tins ghee* comes in).

I don't use it that often for baking and am not sure how long it keeps so it would be great to be able to use it up on my eyes.

*No - definitely won't try ghee to remove eye makeup either 😊

LaMarschallin · 12/08/2019 16:10

PS Sorry! Also meant to say "Thank you"!

BammBamm · 12/08/2019 21:25

Elemis pro-collagen cleansing balm with reusable make up wipes from cheeky wipes.
I find with any oil based removers I have to use a cleanser and toner afterwards. I use the Elemis balancing cleanser and toner as I have combination skin. It's taken me a very long time to find something to suit my skin.

Lavendersquare · 12/08/2019 22:45

@Wearenotyourkind I used to use that years ago in my twenties, I didn't know they still sold it. I've off to invest in some and give it a go.

Thanks for the good suggestions, I may try the coconut oil that sounds worth a try.

Dermalogica Pre-Cleanse is great. It's a light oil that you massage in, then add water and it turns milky. Then rinse off with warm water. This usually gets everything off, but you could go over with an eye make up remover of your choice if you wanted to double cleanse.

Schwibble · 12/08/2019 23:02

Superdrug Stubborn Make Up Remover

Simple Eye Make Up Remover

Clinique Take The Day Off

All work really well IME for eye make up.

Wearenotyourkind · 13/08/2019 10:20

@Lavendersquare yep I just bought some more last week! They have a whole range of cucumber face care, all very reasonably priced.
