DIY Gelish nails?

Very late to the party...I have been admiring lots of ladies beautiful (gel?) nails this summer..
My question is has anyone here ever tried to do it themselves at home??
I have looked on Amazon, and they sell the kit which looks to have in everything that you need for £75..
My thinking is that it would do a good few sets of nails...and I could avoid having to find the time to visit a salon...
It seems that one visit to a salon would cost about £25...So if these kits are any good...it would be really good value..
I would love any advice or opinions..
Thanks x

I do gel polish at home with the Mylee LED lamp from Amazon. It's just polish, not extensions. It's easy enough to do as long as you follow the instructions. I find the branded polishes like Bluesky last longer without chipping (I can get 2 weeks on my fingers and 3 weeks on my toes before the fingers start to chip a bit and the toes need cutting!!!) The cheap colours that you can buy for about 12 quid for a set of 6 work fine but chip after about a week.
I love my lamp and wish I had got it sooner. My nails are now 'done' all the time.

Great Emsy thank you....it's the Mylee set that I've looked at on Amazon. Do you buy your polishes on Amazon too??

I do for convenience yes - mostly cheap ones but n9w that I've seen how much better the Bluesky brand ones last I will buy more of those. They are about 6.50 a bottle on Amazon.

I use an at home lamp too. The sensationail range of polishes are good value and found them recently in a discount shopping village beauty stop, two for less than ten pounds. Prep your nails properly and use a base and top coat too, to get extra time out of them. About a fortnight is achievable but not a lot more, but it takes me about 30 minutes to do so not too much faff to keep on top of it. For removing them buy neat acetone over the counter in boots and soak cotton wool pads in them, wrap around each nail and secure with tape or foil for about 30 minutes and they should lift off easily without damaging your natural nail.

Thank you...I've just ordered the Mylee set on Amazon. Had better prep my nails now so that I'm ready to go when it arrives!

I can get 2-3 weeks' wear on my fingers with Bluesky polishes.
Doing your own gel nails is very addictive - you'll be doing glitter nails soon! Smile

You have GOT to use the same brand lamp and polish, anything else is setting you up for acrylic allergy which will bite you on the bottom if you ever need bone cement ie a broken hip. A polish can be chip free at 60% cure but your still exposed to uncured acrylic which is highly allergenic.

Google Doug schoon on lamps and allergy. The companies who say their lamp cure all gels are demonstrably wrong.
