Make up lesson

Needanickname1 · 09/08/2019 09:45

At the age of 40 I want to finally learn how to apply make up properly and need help choosing the right products. I have read on here about booking lessons at Boots but I cannot find the threads now.

Can anyone recommend which brand of make up would be good for my approaching middle-aged face please? I like a soft natural look, nothing too heavy.

I seem to remember Bobby Brown might be good? I cant afford anything mega expensive, but could consider mid range and buy product gradually as I can afford them.

I think most make up brands that have sales assistants would be only too pleased to give you a lesson (especially if you bought stuff!). Mac do free ones (not sure if they charge and then it is put towards what you buy?). Ditto Bobbi Brown et al.

Should say there are 'themed' lessons you can choose such as applying foundation properly, a perfect lip, etc

Bobbi Brown is expensive, not mid-range. I'd say MAC is mid-range. Boots No7 is obviously quite affordable, but not the best makeup.

Most places charge £25, but if you buy something over £25 they don't charge you (or something similar to that).

Bobbi Brown will do a full face of make-up (takes around an hour) and costs £40 - but this can be redeemed against their products. So ideal if you were looking to buy stuff anyone.

It’s not cheap, but I’ve tried a few products over the years and have found them on of the best....especially the eye make-up. 😊

Bobbi Brown is great for mature skin. If you can afford it then that would be my top recommendation.

Interesting. I’m 43 and have just decided to do the same. I’ve been anti-make up for a good many years and have worn nothing but tinted moisturiser. I have my brows and lashes tinted.
I have booked a makeup lesson with my beauty therapist for a few weeks time. She has a different personal style to what I think I have, but I really trust her so think it will work.

Good luck parrot. Hope it goes well! I did plan one with a make up artist I like but she hasn't got back to me, so am having to look elsewhere.

Bobbi Brown is definitely best for mature skin and looking natural. Also Laura mercier. I get all my foundation and powders, bronzer from there as base level then get eye shadow, blush, eyeliners from cheaper counters like no7, benefit etc because I think those things don't get better the more you spend whereas foundation definitely does!

Great advice, thanks tipsey
