Help find me a backpack! Stylish, durable, at least 1000 pockets

Does anyone have some suggestions for where to find a durable, reasonably priced, somewhat stylish, large backpack with lots and lots of pockets? Bonus points if it's kind to the environment.

I don't want another (obvious) "changing bag", and have a lovely workbag for myself, but still need something for day-trips with the DC, with an external drinks bottle pocket and lots of space for changes of clothes, reusable nappies (take up more space), lunch etc.

Max budget is £80.

I like the look of this Joules one but not sure if it will go with everything all year round!

Also this colourful one looks good , but haven't heard of the company Joy so don't know of quality.

Really love this black fake leather one, looks a lot smarter - but like a lot in this style, it's a little small I think, and a bit expensive!

I've looked for ages online, can anyone help me find what I'm looking for? Thank you Smile

a MN'er recommended one of these when I was looking for DD starting high school.
Its great quality, lots of colours and much to DD's delight oodles of pockets:

I use a Kanken Maxi (its expandable) as my family day out backpack. I got it when DD2 retired from the buggy 5 years ago and it is still in fab condition after solid use. I can fit a family picnic in it, & all I might need for a day out and about. But it doesn't have many pockets at all.
Looks like they have been discontinued sadly - a Kanken Big or Laptop might work.

A bit over your budget but I've had a Knomo one that I've used hard (flinging it around on the floor, public transport and at airports) and had for many years and is still going strong. Couldn't recommend them enough and world spending a bit more for. They are tough.
They have a 2 year guaranetee.

They also have individual numbers in so you can register it if you lose it they have a way of getting it back to you (if not stolen !).

Those Korean ones look fab! Love that they're nylon too. The trendy canvas backpacks that are everywhere look scruffy very quickly.

wellingtonsandwaffles · 08/08/2019 15:23

@TellItLikeItReallyIs That bag is so nice! So many pockets too. But over my budget unfortunately, and my ridiculous 24-7 need for water means I need an outside drinks pocket.

@TheClitterati - I'm tempted....especially when I had a look through the colours, so thanks for sharing. Surprised you say the quality is good though at the low price - not what I'd expect!

Oh how dreary. Get a nice bag instead.

wellingtonsandwaffles · 08/08/2019 15:35

@matahairyy what do you suggest? I'm lost in a sea of buckles, straps and zips and everything is starting to merge into one!

How old are your kids

matahairyy · 08/08/2019 15:46

Just get any old bag. If it’s for day trips does it really matter? Get something cheap and get yourself a nice handbag for being a human

Greyhound22 · 08/08/2019 15:54

What about a Kanken? I haven't got one - they're not really my style I'm a bit plain but I hear marvellous things about them and am tempted.

TheClitterati · 08/08/2019 16:22

Kankens are a bit short on pockets if that is what you like.

They are VERY durable and hard wearing though. When I think of what mine has been through in 5 years and it still looks great, no wear and tear etc.

TheClitterati · 08/08/2019 16:23

@wellingtonsandwaffles I should add DD hasn't actually started using it yet! But it looks and feels well made & of a good quality. and lots of pockets etc. Time will tell.

thetigerthatcamefortea · 08/08/2019 16:40

I have that yellow joules one and love it. It’s been priceless on some good holidays and days out.
It opens really wide so is easy to find stuff.

OhtheHillsareAlive · 08/08/2019 17:00

Has anyone tried the Nordace backpack? It keeps coming up on my Insta and it does look good.

Soola · 08/08/2019 17:54

Cheap, washable and lots of sizes, colours and pockets. Give the monkey to a child though.

I see lots of young women with these

BrassicaBabe · 08/08/2019 22:32

Those Roka ones look interesting

Missanneshirley · 08/08/2019 22:52

I saw roka bags for the first time this summer in a very naice little shop and have been obsessing over them since...so nice...but maybe a bit small for what you are looking for OP?

Missanneshirley · 08/08/2019 22:56

Also the joules one comes in other colours!

wellingtonsandwaffles · 09/08/2019 06:14

@thetigerthatcamefortea - how have you found it in wet weather? And I’m a bit worried about it getting super mucky - does it wipe well? I’ve found it for £35 online!

OrdinarySnowflake · 09/08/2019 09:07

Ooh, what's the Joules one like inside? Cant find photos.

I'malso in the market for a decent rucksack, I've gone from commuting by car to walking, but started getting sore shoulder that I carry my work bag on, think I need a rucksack for going back after the summer holidays.

LaPampa · 09/08/2019 09:35

Try millican for a rucksack. My husband and sister both have one.

OhioOhioOhio · 09/08/2019 09:37

I like a bigger rucksack with smaller soap bags inside.

RingtheBells · 09/08/2019 11:35

I have a Kipling one, I took the monkey off and have found it very useful and it is comfortable to wear and fairly water resistant, I bought it on Amazon on a deal of the day for about £35-40 as they can be quite expensive otherwise

TheClitterati · 09/08/2019 12:55

I'm not a Joules fan at all but I do really like that Joules backpack.
