Hair loss

I'm losing hair at a pretty significant rate - drain blockage in shower, back is covered - I no longer wear it down because it looks thinner and straggly.

Been to Docs and had full blood test (thyroid, iron etc) but I called them yesterday but was told all is well, no further action. Bit gutted about that tbh - was hoping they'd find a reason for the loss.

What can I do?

I would pop into the doctor and get a print out of your results. You could be right at the end of the normal range for something, so no action as it’s still considered ‘normal’ but it could be causing the hair loss.

Even though you haven't had any other symptoms yet, it could be menopause related.

I'm 51, and looking back, my hair started thinning about 5 years ago. It's now very thin, and I've been taking iron supplements but that hasn't helped.

Have just started HRT, although I'm aware it could make it worse or better so only time will tell.

I use brown dry shampoo to help. Fill in some of the gaps, as well as brown keratin powder.

Hiphopoppotamous my Dr said my hair loss doesn't follow the usual pattern, but i have large patches of hair loss, which apart from the crown is mainly between the crown and nape but higher than nape, with a layer hair above it,if that makes sense

My hair is quite thick where i have some and growing fast, just not where i need it, not thinning all over

These normal ferritin results are perplexing I have read so often that hair loss and ferritin levels being involved. What a gp considers normal can be low enough for hair loss. I would get this investigated by a tricologist.
