Help DD has very large feet, is very picky and needs sandals...

We are off to China on Monday. Lots of walking, very hot... Dd is 9 and has currently, size 2 to 3 feet. But as she has very long feet, every pair of sandals we've tried has been either
Too wide
Too uncomfortable (usually a strap at the back, or a toe post which she won't wear)
Too short
Not in her size, as most kids sizes stop at 2 or 3
Have a 'funny feeling' to the sole (all trekking style sandal we found have a sort of bumpy plastic/foam sole. She won't have it)
We found birkenstock style ones she would wear, but they were too small in a 2. So ordered birkenstock from schuh. 6 pairs I've tried. Her big toe hangs over the edge in a 3. No kids ones go to a 4. None in adults with a heel strap, unless they are 50 quid or more, for 2 to 3 weeks tops I can't pay that.
We spent an hour in a shoe shop today, trying literally everything they had in her size. Nothing, she just says they hurt.
We have bought so many pairs of sandals which seem fine, then she gets walking anywhere in them and starts moaning they hurt. I've just given away 3 pairs of almost brand new sandals.
I actually bloody just give up. She's in a pair of slides which are OK but give her blisters if she walks too far.
I don't know what to try next! It's going to be 35 degrees, she can't live in cheap Adidas slides and trainers...

Sorry, long feet, it should say in title, not large! Very narrow too.. Although is dize 3 large for a 9 Yr old? She's quite tall so I guess it'll all even out...

I don't see why she just can't wear sliders and trainers tbh. If you're going to be doing lots of walking trainers are going to be far more comfortable for a 9 year old than sandals.

Justbloodystopit · 06/08/2019 19:09

I just think her feet will boil... Plus it rains a lot, wet trainers are harder to deal with than wet sandals.

My son is 9 and has size 7 feet. Also v narrow. We got some hiking/sports sandals in Sports Direct for about £18.

Pinkkahori · 06/08/2019 19:15

We bought dd a lovely pair of Havaianas on holiday last year. Like flip flops but with ankle straps. They have loads of different styles.

Justbloodystopit · 06/08/2019 19:19

Ooh thanks, I'll look at havianas, I'd assumed they're all toe post. She won't entertain those.
We tried sports direct, nothing met the criteria... I was loosing the will to live. If there is any texture on the sole it's a no go.

Actually now that I think about it, this was the brand we bought for dd.
The shop sold these and Havainas.

What about Saltwater sandals? Very flat non bumpy sole and no toe post??
They come in children's and adults but not sure which size kids goes up to? www.salt-watersandals.com/kids/original-mash-up-russian-venchanie-kids.html

M&S and John Lewis often do sandals that are adjustable over the toe and at the fastening strap. My DD has narrow feet and I find she can only wear sandals with adjustable straps (Velcro or buckle)

IndieTara · 06/08/2019 19:38

I feel you op. My DD is 10 with size 6 feet also narrow.
It's insanely difficult to find footwear that fits and is age suitable and affordable

NuffingChora · 06/08/2019 19:41

I would try Teva - they are v comfortable and adjustable. Soles aren’t too bumpy.

Teddybear45 · 06/08/2019 19:46

If you’ll be walking the great wall she will need light but high quality walking boots. It gets very slippery there.

Charleymouse · 06/08/2019 19:52

My DD is 9 and has size 3 feet, her friend is size 4 (age 9).
I don't think that is that big compared to her friends.

DD 14 is size 8/9. Shock

Try decathlon or a camping style shop. If no luck trainers should be fine.

TheRLodger · 06/08/2019 19:56

Have you tried Reef sandles. I have narrow feet and growing up these fitted.

Justbloodystopit · 06/08/2019 19:57

Thanks all, will look at those. Struggling now with time for things to be delivered, have exhausted all options in actual shops, tried marks but no sandals, all school shoes...
Hiking boots... Eek.. We have done the great Wall before, bits of it anyway, and I'm pretty sure just had hiking type sandals, which is what I was hoping to find for her. We also have a 4 Yr old do it'll be very pedestrian, no great distances or tough terrain but just lots of walking around in the heat which is why I thought hiking sandals were best.

DD is 7 and has narrow size 4 feet. She will only wear these Decathlon sandals

Justbloodystopit · 06/08/2019 20:09

Thanks a o much, have ordered a few pairs of tevas, looked at decathlon, no luck as out of stock, we tried lots like that but no joy.
Paying out for delivery so fingers crossed!

Dd2 has always had massive feet, currently size 8 at 13 and still growing.

We had trekking sandals, and usually boys ones for many years and is now in Birkenstock’s that are a dragon scale print that are awesome.

Justbloodystopit · 06/08/2019 20:27

Thanks yes I'll try there as we have one in the next town, forgot about it. Hopefully something will meet with her approval!

Some people just find sandals ridiculously uncomfortable for walking. I am one of those people. I’d rather have hot feet in trainers than risk sandals.

The ONLY ones I could cope with when I was living in a very hot country were Keen Aqua clogs. I detest having my toes exposed. I always stub them.

Have you tried Clark's for a narrow fitting?
What about something like crocs, they also do dolly style shoes which are supposed to be comfortable and the rubber would be fine in rain.
Or Saltwater sandals are very comfortable and you can tighten the straps on some styles.
