Full coverage but thin textured foundation?

bingowingsmcgee · 03/08/2019 23:13

I have melasma and a generally very uneven skintone so I need high coverage, but I find that the full coverage foundations I've tried look kind of mask-like and really age me. Does anyone have any recommendations or advice pls?

Boots No.7 Stay Matte is really good. I've been using it for years. Really good coverage without being too heavy and cakey.

CarrieBlu · 03/08/2019 23:27

Vichy dermablend is perfect for what you need.

Hourglass stick

Rather than layering up coverage, try a peach-toned colour corrector under your foundation. It should help cancel out the blue tones of the pigment.

Nars sheer glow, thing and can build up coverage

JMAngel1 · 04/08/2019 11:24

Controversial but EL DD in the tiniest quantity covers like magic but doesn't look heavy but you literally need less than pea size amount for the whole face. Go in first on your melasma areas then sheer it out where you need less coverage with a flat topped brush.

The Boots No 7 one which you mix with primer/moisturiser is a good one as you control coverage.

They match it to your skin tone in store then you get a wee bottle of it and mix it with whatever you choose. I like smashbox clear primer as it's very smooth and gives even coverage without being heavy.

I can't really tolerate foundations as they feel cloggy but this doesn't

Ooh loads of ideas to try, thank you so much everyone! This mid-life skin thing seems to throw up different issues all the time! I've only just cleared up the adult acne and now it's pigment, puffiness and saggy finelines. Maybe I'll just smash all the mirrors

I use the no7 bb cream as like a base to even out my skin tone, I use it on its own aswell sometimes if I'm not doing full make-up but I also use the no7 beautifully matte light to build it up and I feel that works well for me, I've suffered with cystic acne in the past so have scarring and also have uneven skin tone and I always tend to go back to these two.. plus no7 always has good deals on! Hmm good old no. 7 is coming out of this really well. I have used their foundations in the past and liked them, I just get suckered in to using more glamorous brands. I'm going to visit a no 7 counter and see what they suggest. Thanks very much for all the input, I really appreciate it.

Op can I be nosey and ask how you got rid of your adult acne? I’m still struggling with mine!

givemesomehelp · 04/08/2019 16:20

@Troton just wanted to give my experience of getting rid of my adult acne as I had it so bad (cystic acne) I tried everything and even tried prescribed medication from doctors which just didn't seem to help at all and in the end I went to a dermatologist and had 4 lots of salicylic acid peels (they recommended 6) but after 4 it literally got rid of it incredibly. It was expensive I'm not going to lie to you but it was honestly so worth it and they suggested getting it done once a year as a top up but it's been 7 years since I had it done and haven't had acne or anything since, barely even a small pimple!

ALittleBitAlexis · 04/08/2019 16:22

The Ordinary Coverage Foundation - lightweight, buildable coverage and it's only £6

bingowingsmcgee · 04/08/2019 17:05

troton course you can. What worked for me was a course of kefir - that probiotic stuff. A lady on a local selling page had some spare grains so I made my own with whole milk and dh and I had a large glass full as a fruit smoothie each day. We just had it out of curiosity really cos it was free, but we both found our skin cleared up and when we missed a few days the spots came back. Once they'd pretty much gone, I did find the LA Roche posay efflacar moisturizer helped keep my skin clear. I get the odd tiny spot now, but it's pretty much clear and we haven't had the kefir for weeks now. Will have another stint on it if the spots come back.

Estee Lauder Doublewear, if you don't use too much.

nothingtowearever · 04/08/2019 20:52

Estée Lauder double wear!

NabooThatsWho · 04/08/2019 20:57

Maybelline Superstay is very good and doesn’t feel heavy.

Troton · 04/08/2019 21:10

That’s amazing op!
Do you have to make the kefir yourself or can you buy it? I’ve heard of it but must admit I don’t really know what it is!

bingowingsmcgee · 04/08/2019 21:30

Well I don't properly understand it myself to be honest. It's a culture of yeasts and bacteria that kind of fight each other? And when they get to your gut they hopefully help repopulate the good bacteria, which can have all kinds of beneficial effects. Have a little read around it from people who know more than me. There's a lady called Donna Schwenk on fb who does videos about it. It didn't cost me anything but I guess if there's noone local that has any of the grains then you'd need to find a decent source online. My friend had a course delivered to her home from 'chuckling goat' and it really helped her skin, but I haven't used that company myself cos I've just made my own cultured smoothies.

Got matched for double wear today and loved how it looked in the shop, although it's a little cakey now I'm home. The coverage is great though. I really hope I don't have to choose between patchy and wrinkly!!

I;ve used no 7 in the past and find it doesn't stay on my skin unfortunately...cos as you say they do have great deals. I;ve tried Smash box and EL Double wear..the only thing with me and doublewear is I do find it settles into my old age wrinkles now a bit and is a bit drying. (as just over 50) Have also tried Bare Minerals liquid and Bobbi Brown...can't decide which I like the best....I tend to be a tart with make up and get suckered into a different brand! You could always mix double wear with moisturiser to make it less powdery I guess

SarahBeeney · 06/08/2019 08:59

I have Melasma and recently bought the Estée Lauder camouflage foundation (it's higher coverage than the double wear).
It covers everything even tattoos however,I just can't blend it well enough. It's literally like a mask! I have tried a sponge/brush/fingers.

So,I am mixing it with my old Mac foundation and it gives enough coverage and is actually blendable.
