My skin is so oily. What can I use to stop me looking like my face is wet by about 1pm!

Oil blotting paper is good.
Don’t over- cleanse your skin. I was oily for years, I found that the gentler I was with my skin the more balanced it was.

@haverhill what do you use to cleanse your face?

The Body Shop Seweed Moisturiser is the only moisturiser that doesn't make me look like I've dipped my face in chip fat. it's got SPF too which most mattifying moisturisers don't have.
agree with Haverhill though, harsh cleansers can strip my skin and make it react by being more oily! I like to do a hot cloth cleanse with oil or balm cleanser to remove makeup, don't ask me how oil cleanser makes my skin less oily but it works for me, I like Loreal Extaordinary Oil Cleanser and Body Shop Chamomile Oil Cleanser, but I recently tried a tester pot of Clinique Take the Day Off Balm and that was really good.

I use a variety of things, I tend to do the ‘hot polish’ thing but very gently and using cooler water. This exfoliates too, so no need to put weird acid toners on! I use a flannel not a muslin. Superdrug do a very good hot polish cleanser if you don’t want to spend loads.
The real game changer however was NOT cleansing in the mornings, just washing with tepid water. It made my skin calmer, less greasy and generally better. I think women are sold the idea they have to do loads to their skin, but my experience doing as little as possible allows your skin to find its happy place.

I found using a dry oil as a moisturiser stopped my face from being so oily, i was naturally producing too much oil to try to battle how dry it was

PixieLumos · 04/08/2019 11:38

Body shop seaweed or teetrea range.

Cerave Hydrating Cleanser is a really gentle non stripping cleanser. If you're not taking all he natural oils away from the skin, then the skin isn't going to have to over produce oil to compensate

Thanks all! Will give some of these a try!

I got told that all of the harsh face washes and toners and exfoliators and creams specifically for oily skin were actually making my skin worse, as they were stripping my natural oils and making my body overcompensate by going into oil overdrive.

I switched to Body Shop Chamomile cleansing balm to clean my face, and Pixi Rose Oil to moisturise, with a basic Nivea night cream at night. Honestly, the difference in my skin is unbelievable.

One benefit of oily skin I do enjoy is that I regularly get mistaken for being 10 years younger than I actually am haha

Yes, one day you’ll bless your oils for keeping your skin supple and (relatively) unlined!

I know it sounds odd, but have you tried useing a heavier night moisturiser?

I have oily and dehydrated skin and I’ve found I’m noticeably less oily during the day if I’ve really well moisturised at night - I’m currently using old school Astral as a night moisturiser.

I find if I’m a bit light handed with the moisturiser my skin goes into overdrive producing oil.
