I’m in Denmark. What should I buy?

Is Arket Danish and do you think it would be less £££ to buy it here than back home in the UK? I love their stuff but have never been able to justify it cost wise!

Any other suggestions to look at? Is & other stories a Danish brand too?

I bought NoaNoa when in Denmark.. I think the best things in Denmark are things for home - I loved Norman Copenhagen and got some lovely candleholders . Glerups slippers are super comfy and anything from George Jensen. Oly Lyngaard has jaw droppingly beautiful jewellery but jaw dropping prices too!

Dkk is hammering the £ at the mo, it isn’t cheaper in Denmark, (the label has both prices on I think). By all means buy something lovely but you won’t be saving money.
Are you in Copenhagen?

Littlebluetinofdorcaspins · 03/08/2019 06:59

Go to the Masai outlet in Copenhagen - I hate clothes shopping and went mad and bought almost an entire new wardrobe AND EVERYTHING FIT (6'2" whose trousers are usually at half mast and can't find a shirt with long enough arms or T-shirts with long enough bodies).

Herocomplex · 03/08/2019 07:02

Arket is Swedish by the way, part of the H&M group.

Another vote for Danish things for your home. A Poul Henningsen lampshade would be my first choice.

banivani · 03/08/2019 10:13

If Arket is at the top end of your budget I doubt that you’ll be shopping for any of the classic danish design things tbh, they tend to be expensive. If you like Masai (they are a bit marmite) then the outlet sounds like a good choice! You’ll prob have prices like 20-30 pounds for a top instead of their normal 80 (but I’m just guessing, haven’t been).

Agree with previous poster that you won’t be saving money (and both Arket and Stories are Swedish brands but the prices are set over Europe).

I’d love to wander around second hand shops in Copenhagen and look for pretty things for my home. Smile

Definitely the hotdogs!! With a beer, like the Danes do it! And the enormous traditional ice cream cones.

Also if you’re in Copenhagen go to Illums bolighus - you can pick up some great Scandi home decor at varying price points.

As pp has said, Georg Jensen & Ole Lyngaard for jewellery, or you could visit the Amber museum/shop and get something there.

Find charity shops and second hand shops for retro lamps and vintage home items!

I'd go for vintage as well. Denmark is really expensive. Found Malmo to be a bit cheaper if you are in Copenhagen it's easy to catch the train over. They have a nice design centre. Copenhagen Airport has some interesting design shops.
