Why can't I get dry?

I swim 3 times a week and use beach towels to dry off. Only problem is I can't seem to get dry. I seem to spend longer in the changing room than in the pool. I end up putting my clothes on to a damp body which isn't the easiest thing believe me! Any fellow swimmers with tips?

Could you perhaps get a towel that's more absorbent? 600GSM ones are perfect for a quick dry after swimming, I've found.

AnyFucker · 02/08/2019 14:47

Beach towels have poor absorbency

You need high thread count quality towels

When you wash your towel don’t use fabric conditioner or tumble dryer sheets, and try to line dry.

grownup2 · 02/08/2019 14:51

Don't know how old you are but could be perimenopausal sweats after exercise.

Happycow · 02/08/2019 14:52

Could you try a liberal dousing of talc? I rely on it post-swim!

purplecorkheart · 02/08/2019 15:18

Maybe try a micro fibre towel

Oldraver · 02/08/2019 15:43

I always take excess water off with my hair towel (or a flannel if I'm not using a hair towel) then wrap towel around me.

CMOTDibbler · 02/08/2019 16:00

I'm a frequent swimmer and have this down to a fine art - I have a microfibre hair turban that goes on first. Then I dry all over with a small cotton towel (actually they are old terry nappy squares). I then stand on this. Then I use a cotton hammam towel all over again, then change the hair turban for this.
Towels never get washed with fabric conditioner which impedes drying

Michaelbaubles · 02/08/2019 16:02

Talcum powder was made for use after swimming! Cuts down drying time when I take DC to swimming lessons by miles.

Hammam towels. Take up hardly any space. I stick one hand-towel sized one on my head and dry myself with another the same size. And yes, no fabric conditioner.

I use microfibre towels at the gym - super quick to dry me off

DontCallMeShitley · 02/08/2019 16:41

No idea who Megan is, sorry Grin

Branleuse · 02/08/2019 16:42

Hamman towels and talc

TheFlis12345 · 02/08/2019 16:43

I never feel properly dry in pool or spa changing rooms, the dampness in the air always leaves me feeling a bit sticky!

baggies · 02/08/2019 18:07

Thanks everyone. Didn't know there were micro fibre towels. I will try them. Does talc on damp skin not make it like dough?😂
Everyone else seems to have towels that look faded and worn, maybe I need to use an old towel. Didn't know about fabric conditioner making towels less absorbent. Interesting. I will try all these tips!

I can't stand the microfibre towels, it's like polishing yourself with a chamois leather, but see what you think!
