What are you 20/30 somethings wearing through these wet 'clammy/muggy' UK summer?

I perfected my wardrobe this summer, for the first time in 5 years I felt confident with my new dresses/ linen trousers with sandals and now they're all out of service :(

Really hating my jeans right now (warm and wet does not work with jeans!) and my goto is jeans with converse. Is that the best option for summer or can anyone share their styles? For context i'm a pear shape with a saggy tummy I prefer to hide.

Hi, not in the UK so not 100% on what kind of weather you mean, but on days when it's both hot and wet - and I still want to look presentable - my go to is a plain black h&m t-shirt tucked into a pair of khaki cotton trousers like this (with the bottoms rolled up a couple of times to make them more cropped) and a pair of black chelsea boots.

The black t-shirt is good at not showing any sweat marks like other colours might, I don't tend to get too warm in the trousers, and the boots keep my feet nice and dry! Smile You could always put a pair of flats in your bag to change into at the office if you were worried about the boots making your feet too warm during the day.

I feel like you could also do the same thing but just replace the trousers with a nice midi skirt, or just wear a black cotton dress with boots - I found one that really suits me and it was a game-changer!

I wouldn't recommend jeans for hot weather at all. Nowadays I pretty much pack my jeans away from March until October!

Generally, hareem pants with scoop neck t-shirt and Converse.

I feel like there have been plenty of opportunities to wear my jeans so far this summer! 😱😂 I have a beloved pair of charcoal high-waisted baggy-ish straight legs that are getting a lot of wear, slightly rolled up.

CodenameVillanelle · 02/08/2019 07:12

Knee length dresses with bare legs (chub rub shorts under)
Loose harem type trousers with wide neck tops
What's wrong with your linen trousers and sandals? I'm not sure I get it

Glitteryfrog · 02/08/2019 07:14

Gap chinos with metalic birkenstocks (or trainers when damp).
Midi skirts

I know what you mean. Sandals and rain = annoying. If if is hot and rainy though just swap the sandals for closed toe shoes, for example a ballet flat or loafer.

Why on earth does age matter, if you want to know what looks stylish?

There is so much more to choosing clothes, and how they look on you, than the date of your birth certificate.

I am not in your age range, so stop reading now if you want. But I find dresses are the solution. What is the issue with your current ones?

Look for natural fibres (extending to loose viscose, as it's plant based) and looser fits. I had a lovely 'school run' dress (MN jargon sense, nothing to do with actual journeys) from TKMaxx, whuch was sleeveless shirt style (so loose fit, but can be belted so you aren't shapeless. Lots of stripy, longer more flowing dresses around, in lighter fabrics, and they shouid be cool.

I wear shorts a lot as well, with either Converse/trainers or espadrilles. Looser tops that drape well when it's hot. Nothing tight (though you need narrow shorts, to avoid looking 1980s - unless that's the look you want?

If chafing is an issue, try Body Glide rather than adding more clothes

silverystream · 02/08/2019 08:46

Re. Chafing I wear a petticoat that is fashioned into culottes. Cool and airy, looks like any petticoat / slip not odd.

SolitudeAtAltitude · 02/08/2019 08:48

What do you mean with "out of service" Op?

Dandeliontea123 · 02/08/2019 08:55

I think the OP means that she can’t wear them after all because of the wet weather Solitude

TheOutside · 02/08/2019 11:06

The age context felt important @AuntieStella as I think my mother can look stylish but she would never wear converse or jeans and our tastes are not similar. I have just had a birthday so may be my own insecurity about looking 'Mumsy' coming through!

Yes I meant out of service as in unable to be worn due to the poor weather.

Some younger people never wear converse or jeans either. It really isn't inherently age related. Tastes differ. But not because of age.

What sorts of styles do you like, TheOutside ? And how much/little do you want to spend?

StarlightLady · 02/08/2019 11:27

40 something! So technically excluded, but that seems the norm.

Long summer dresses and a bra. That’s about it! Wink

wiltingflower · 02/08/2019 12:41

Dresses or nice top with skirt/shorts + trainers/sandals (I favour walking sandals so think nice ones from trespass or similar which have a good sole and prettyish straps). I carry a light packable raincoat and just in case it gets cold, a kimono or cardigan with me. Sunglasses are always in my bag.

Sent by accident before I could finish writing!

I think wearing what you want with trainers would be a simple, practical change but trendy enough because it's fashionable ATM. Instagram and Styled by Susie has lots of well dressed ladies wearing white trainers. You don't have to stick with white- my trainers are black and pink but fit the colours of my wardrobe.
