Bottle blond to bottle redhead ?

Hi! I have a quick question to you clever peeps ...
I've been a bottle blond for years, so can I easily change to bottle auburn /red instead ? Or is it a nightmare ? I'm already getting upkeep appointment on about a 6 week turn around, so happy to keep that up to hide roots .
Any tips ?
Thanks thanks ! Smile

I've gone blonde to red twice without issue.
Just bear in mind how hard it is to get red out of the hair if you want to go lighter again.
Also if you have any bleach in your hair at the moment whether recent or from old highlights note that the red will not manage to 'stick' to the hair as well so depending on the amount of bleach/condition of your hair you may well find, as I did, that the red colour leaches from your hair very quickly.
Also prepare for stains on towels/pillows etc.

Thank you. Hadn't even thought about colour transference ! All my bedlinen is white. I think it's all bleached so I guess it won't hold the red for long then ?

I'm sure this would be fine nowadays, but I'm reminded of my mum, in the 80s, turning her hair pink doing this.

That's what worries me ! When o broached the subject with a hairdresser she tried to dissuade me .

It will look rich and lovely for a few days but every time you wash your hair the dye will come out - you'll see it going down the drain - and soon it will look dull and pinky/browny. The more bleached your hair is, the worse it will look.
From experience.
Twice.

You need to speak to your hairdresser about this and be prepared for lots of aftercare. Reds fade quite a lot and if your hair is bleached underneath will fade even more as your cuticle is more open. Are you wanting like realistic redhead red, or vivid red? Do you have pictures? How light is your hair? Do you have roots, will you need to continue bleaching and then doing red to get the shade you want, or are you wanting something that will blend and enable you to grow your bleach out, do you have grey coming through that will need to be covered?

Whatever you do don’t be tempted to whack a box dye (or worse, henna) on it at home.

Depending on your natural levels what i would be tempted to do would be to put permanent on your roots and bleed into a semi through the length, then as the permanent colour grows out and fades you just repeat. But! Fading is real, i have a client who leaves with cherry coloured hair and comes back 8 weeks later with kind of a peach colour. And depending on what you have done now, it may not be quicker/cheaper than your blonde - you are looking at a full head of colour every appointment rather than a root retouch. But if you are used to doing proper aftercare on your blonde and it’s really what you want, then there’s no reason it shouldn’t happen.

Something like this would be doable but be aware that as pps have said, that shine and pigment will be hard to maintain, unless you top up between appointments with a direct dye, something like crazy colour or directions.

You need it done in a salon tho because the peroxide that comes with box dyes is super super harsh and will exacerbate the fade and dullness

Hi

Thank you for the info . I'm white blonde currently. Was Auburn growing up and wanted to go back to that m, rather than a strong red.
It's quite long , midway down my back . I think I'll nip into town and see if I can grab a chat with the colourist at the salon .

Thank you so much !
